Everyone, thanks a lot. This post has a lot of valuable information in it and I will follow the advice given.

As for the poster who mentioned that the Moscow field office was closing - that's a bit of a shock to me. I'll have her call asap once I can get some more baseline information. 

And for those of you who asked where we will be living after marriage, the answer is probably russia, maybe the u.s., or maybe somewhere else.

Yes, the USCIS field office in Moscow is closing due to low application volume supposedly. You can contact them directly if you have any other questions.

Keep in mind that the CR-1 spousal visa is for living in the US, it is an immigrant visa. If you plan to live in Russia and just want your wife to visit the US with you, she would need a B tourist visa. B visas are tricky to get when the applicant is married to a USC. If you decide to go that route, be prepared for your wife to bring very strong evidence that she's living in Russia with you and has no intention to immigrate to the US at that point.

That's why folks were asking where you will be living - it makes a difference. CR1 and K1 visas are not tourist visas, they are immigration visas. If you do not plan on living in the US together as a married couple, these may not be the best options for your partner at this time.
