The I-551 stamp means that the field office used their discretion to provide the stamp to the beneficiary who asked for it, and demonstrated that they need it and can't wait for the card in the mail.

Ok, so if FO gives the stamp but recommends for approval. Does that mean the beneficiary is officially a PR at the interview?

They're not going to give you a green card if you're not approved, so yes, if you get the stamp you're approved.

I'm saying that you probably won't get the stamp whether you're approved or not. The field offices just don't give those stamps unless you really need it and they feel like it. ADIT stamps, after my research, are for people who get green cards upon setting foot in the US, since those cards take longer to arrive in the mail. If yours takes a week, why in the world would an officer go through the trouble of stamping your passport?

I'm not sure what "recommended for approval" vs "approved" actually means. It's either just different syntax for the same idea, or there is a workplace hierarchy that allows more senior officers to approve on the spot, and more junior officers need to get a "manager override".

So a clever way of knowing if approved for not after is asking for the stamp?

Recommended for approval means they have to go through their supervisor?

I don't remember if it was already there or if he printed and stamped it while we were talking, but he didn't step out. It happened so fast that I can't say for sure. We weren't interviewed by the person whose name is on the stamp.

Sounds like they already made a decision before the interview. :P

Yes, but it also says that you need to present documentation to justify requesting a stamp in your passport. I got my physical green card in the mail on Jan 4, so just a little over two weeks later, and that included two federal holidays.

I don’t want any doubts after the interview. That is why I asked about stamp. Recommended for approval is good but still puts your thoughts in limbo for the while.

You need to lay off forums for a while. What are you trying to accomplish here? Chances are, you will not be "approved on the spot". Yes you're in limbo. Your interview is coming up. You have no questions.

You're just spamming VJ now. Quit it. Go to your interview and that's that.

The slip says recommended for approval. So that is the best outcome possible right?
