Phoned this morning to get my case number after having my NOA 2 accepted on the 2nd of January.

Has anyone's petition been forwarded to your embassy yet? When I asked for my case number I was given an invoice number as well, is that of any relevance to a K1 visa or is it just something they assign your petition because it's treated as an immigrant visa?

Hello everyone.. Im now officially posting here since we already received our noa2 approval notice dated 16 Jan 2019....

First question.. The validity means we have to complete the interview before the validity period expired?

The validity of the NOA2 is for four months. They want you to complete your visa processing at the consulate during that window. The reason is that they have thousands of approved applicants and they need to keep things moving along or they will back up if everyone decides they want to process in a particular month then the other months there are relatively few interviews. So to keep thing moving along the put  date on the NOA2. If for some reason, illness, death in the family or some other valid reason, your consulate can extend the visa at their discretion.

The validity of the visa and not the NOA2 is explained in the following:

The validity of your visa will be limited with the validity of your medical report. Medical reports classified as "Class B (TB)" are valid for 3 months from the date the doctor signed the report. All other medical reports classified as "No apparent decease or defect" are valid for 6 months after the doctor’s signature date. If your case is subject to further administrative processing, or if the processing of your file is delayed due to missing documents, the medical report may expire before your visa is issued. In that case, you would be required to renew the examination and submit an updated medical report to our office before you receive your visa.

There’s a few on their way to the embassies this week. Shiran answered the Invoice question:

15 hours ago, Shiran said:

To be honest I do not think it is actually needed for K-1 visa. I was given it on the phone and dutifully wrote it down. Invoice number is used for CR-1 and other "true" immigrant visa to pay the visa fee to NVC. Since K-1 is this mutant beast it has invoice number but since we don't do DS-260 and instead to DS-160 to the consulate for non-immigrant visa it is not used. At least that is my understanding, someone more knowledgeable can correct me.

Has anyone's petition been forwarded to your embassy yet? There are many who have had their case sent to their embassy as yesterday and today are NVC case shipment days.

When I asked for my case number I was given an invoice number as well, is that of any relevance to a K1 visa or is it just something they assign your petition because it's treated as an immigrant visa? That is for a immigrant visa. Just put to the side.

I’m in the same boat as you mate, haven’t booked the medical yet, I literally have everything in hand, waiting for the embassy to get my case before I dig in and get this all done!

I dont wanna jump too far ahead in case I miss something 🤷🏽‍♂️

A safe window is to wait 5 business days. It is RARE that we see a case number produced the day after receipt. Besides, not much can be done until your case has been set to "ready" for your consulate. Phone numbers and advice is on the first page of this thread first post.

Be careful of getting ahead as Knightsbridge is notoriously late getting medical results to the embassy. So plan ahead. Also, have you joined your subforum. https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/100-regional-discussion/

Hi @Greenbaum

I asked you before whether I need to create a new ds160 or not after noticing that I made a mistake after submitting it.

You told me that there’s no need for me to create a new one since i can just tell the CO myself to update it on my behalf on the day of the interview However, I was so bothered that I can’t sleep because I noticed a lot of mistakes with the dates that I entered.😭😭😭

What I did was I opened up my ds160 and retrieved the application and I clicked on create a new application and it just showed me my information that I already entered so I only updated the information that needs to be changed but when I submitted it, it generated a new confirmation bar code.

Someone told me that it’s fine as long as my interview appointment schedule is linked to my corrected DS160. But how would I know that it’s linked? Do I need to create a new acct and set an interview schedule again? Please let me know. I really dont know what to do and stressing me out. I’m aftraid that on the day of my interview they will just tell me to reschedule my interview.

The DS-160 doesn't get linked until you are at the interview hence the reason for you to bring a barcode printout of the confirmation page. Once you hand that to the CO they will link your DS-160 to your case file. That's how it is done. Now not to confuse the two different barcodes, I recommend that you destroy the barcode for the DS-160 you will not be using so it doesn't confuse you or the CO at the interview.
