Hello

I have a few questions we filed a K1 visa app and I am a little lost on the process. We did receive the receipt number but who will get a letter about the next steps? My Fiancé is in JA and the mail system there is horrible. Will I get a letter or do I have to just check and call until I get an update? My next question is how many days out do they give you before the appointment?

Petition approval comes to the USC

You will receive the NOA2 from the USCIS center. That letter will say that they forwarded it to the NVC. Once they are done with their process, you can call them and ask them for your case number which is the number that the embassy will have and know you for. And then after waiting, and waiting and waiting,  your fiance will receive a "package" which includes a list with things she needs to do and bring or send to the embassy that she will have the interview at. Some actually give you an interview date and some will ask you to schedule your own date, i don't know how that works exactly. But that's the overall view.

I don't know how many days out they give you before the interview, but it has to be somewhere between 1 and 6 months. Normally it's around 3 months from what I see on the VisaJourney Timeline.

I hope I answered all of your questions.. 😂

ok Kenni so from someone who has gone through the embassy in JA this is how it will go down:

1) YOU will receive a notice (NOA2) from USCIS saying that your petition was approved (hopefully) if not you will get and RFE (request for evidence).

2) once approved your petition will be sent to NVC (National Visa Center) for further processing and to be assigned a case number. (It will take about 3 weeks to get to the NVC) You can begin calling the NVC for your case number which will start with KNG*********

3) Go here https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx and fill out the DS160 and be sure to print the bar code!!!!!

4) after aprox. 3 weeks your case will be sent from NVC to the US embassy in JA. You will recieve an email from NVC telling you the case has been sent.  You will NOT receive anything from the embassy to let you know they have received it.  You will be able to track it yourself through the CEAC case tracker here is the link  https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=NIV You will enter the KNG case number under immigrant visa and your status will appear.

5) once your status says READY you can go to this website https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-jm/iv/information/iv_services to schedule an interview at the embassy for your fiance. Make sure you schedule it out far enough to get the medical complete (at least 10 days for the medical to reach the embassy) You must have the DS160 barcode available to schedule and you must pay the interview fee of $265 US dollars

6) Next go to the St. Andrews Hospital website to request a US medical exam. https://www.andrewsmemorialhospital.com/rules/ (You must schedule the interview first)

You can also start gathering all the documents you will need for the medical and interview.  It seems like plenty and it is.  @Greenbaumposted the links for the documents you will need.  Good Luck!!!

Thank you Jenny17655  it seemed like it took you a little over a year to get your loved one with you am i correct?   Was there any issues with them getting their mail because my fiancé he doesn’t have a mail box and he said he just goes to the post office to pick up mail  and I’m a little freighted about that..  An just being realistic I started in July so are we looking about May if everything goes well to an approval

Actually our whole process from filing to him arriving here was 9.5 months.  If I mailed him something I mailed it to the post office or DHL.  DHL is expensive, post office is slower.
