Like... my main worry is that having submitted an e-request it will prompt me to "skip" the I-90. If all i get as a response from that is "Please file an I-90", then there would be no issues. But they gave me the estimated date of october 21 as a response to it 😕

Nope, you will not be instructed to skip the I-90 - you will have to file an I-90 in order to get a replacement card, which currently takes several months like someone else already responded about. The only thing you will not be required to do is make the $540 replacement fee since the error on your GC appears to be a USCIS caused error.

Alright. What I am going to do it's probably going to call them to tell them to cancel my e-request (I sent a support request via the Uscis.gov site about something wrong on my card -_- like an idiot.), that I will mail the I-90 with my card, and do it after i come back from my trip.

Think that should work out?

What you need to do, IMO, is to file the I-90 now which will require you to send in the GC. Upon receipt of the NOA for the replacement filing, take the acceptance notice to your FO and get an I-551 stamp (temporary GC) on your passport which you can then use for your return trip. You jump start the replacement process clock this way, rather than waiting until your return before starting what will be a long process.

And yes, make sure you use the GC to get an updated SSN card before mailing it back for replacement, assuming you currently have a SSN card which has the DHS restrictions written on it.

Would i need to schedule an appointment to get my I-551 stamp? Or i can just go to the USCIS office and show the NOA and get a stamp?

An INFOPASS appointment is typically required to visit the FO. However, if you have a compelling reason to visit without a previously scheduled INFOPASS appointment, the guards at the entrance my be lenient enough to let you in.

Honestly the only worry i have at this point is that my e-request would prompt a RFE and ask me to send an I-90 right away.

I'm fine with waiting after i come back from my trip, I dont plan on leaving again for a long time so there's no issue there. But I have a month before my flight, no money for another one and i honestly just hope i can cancel that e-request by talking with them on the phone tomorrow 😕

Yes response time on an I90 is 7 months to a year. We had to get our senator involved to try and short cut this. After we got the first replacement card we found they again made a mistake on the card so we are having to do it all again. This time we are brining in the senator from the beginning not waiting 4 months .

  • 5 weeks later...

I too am experiencing a similar issue. 'Resident since' date is shown as 2017 although it's supposed to be 2018 (I-485 was approved just last week, EB2-NIW).

The most frustrating thing is that this is a mistake that's really easy for them to catch (or, from another point of view, really hard to make!) because right above it is the expiration date which is shown correctly as 2028. Yes, I received an 11-year green card!

I fortunately don't have any traveling plan (at least not internationally), but I am expecting to switch jobs in a month or two so if I file an I-90 now, with an estimate of 4.5-11.5 months of I-90 processing, I won't have my green card back when I am accepting the new employment.

This is so upsetting. Going through this long process with patience and when it's supposed to finally end, some stupid mistake happens that is completely out of control, not to mention totally preventable.

Because my issue is so similar, I thought I'd hop on this thread to ask my questions instead of creating a new thread.

Questions:

1. Anybody knows if there is a time limit for me to submit I-90 on the basis of correcting a mistake in the card that is USCIS' fault? Let's say, as an extreme case, I waited to file I-90 until the new job starts, which could take ~3 months from now. Is this going to be a problem?

2. If I decide to submit I-90 right away and send the card back, will I get some kind of notice/letter that I can use to file paperwork for new employment when they asked me for proof of work authorization? I'm pretty sure my I-485 EAD, which still works until April 2019, is now voided after I was issued a green card, so I can't use that anymore.

I noticed that someone above said to make sure I get a new Social Security card without the restriction, so that's a good idea that I'm going to definitely do right away. My driver license also expires next month, so I'm going to renew that right away as well. We have RealID here so renewing it with the green card will get me the full 8-year of RealID license, which would be a very strong proof of my permanent residence status. I'm still not sure if this is enough for the paperwork of the new employment, though, as it's a government organization.

As a k1, what SHOULD my resident since date be on my GC?

I'm going to be applying to remove conditions soon(I assume), but I realized that mine and my daughters resident since dates are different, even though we did all paperwork and interviews at the same time.  Mine has our wedding day as the residency date.
