renouncing citizenship to be a US citizen

At what point in the N400 process are you required to renounce your current citizenship? 

I am a Philippine citizen and prefer to pursue dual citizenship rather than renounce it unless I have to.

Anyone familiar with the process? Or could point me to some good resources?

When you take your oath

 

Just apply for Philippines dual citizenship following that.

The U.S. does not require one to renounce his/her current citizenship before naturalizing. What you'll need to look into is whether the Philippines allows dual citizenship, and/or if there are steps necessary (per Filipino law) to retain your Filipino citizenship after you naturalize in another country.

Hi there as a citizen of Germany I automatically lost my citizenship the day I became an American citizen. 

 

I could have done something formal but I didn't need a "certificate of dismissal" since it happened automatically anyway. 

 

If I wanted to keep my German citizenship however, I would have had to file for it before the oath ceremony. I decided not to do it.

Thanks for the responses. So if the original citizenship is automatically lost at oath taking, how does your home country know? Looks like I would still have to officially renounce it after the fact, no?

This is not true for all countries.  The US doesn't care.  Other countries may, but you have to check the specific rules in the Philippines.  The German person's experience is not relevant to you.
