We are FINALLY just waiting for consulate interview. After the interview how many days does it take for the visa to come? What is the process like?

Also, my husband wants to get straight to work when he gets here. How long will it take for his social security card to get in? We are dealing with the office in Santo Domingo. What was your experience like? What questions did they ask?

Thanks!

He can start work right away. He doesn't need to wait for the actual SSN card to arrive. I was working less than 2 weeks after I arrived and the SSN card arrived 3 weeks after I landed.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Hi @amaria29

My husbans Visa was issued 3 days after our interview, however we didn't get it until 8 days later because we had them ship it to his town which took a little longer. To start working you don't need the card but you WILL need a SSN.  We had our interview September 4th!

Questions towards my husband--

1. When and How did we meet?

2. Asked my husband to talk about my life in the US.

3. How did he propose?

4. If we knew each others families?

5. Asked my husband where I worked and what I did there.

6. Asked my husband where I went to University and what I studied there.

Questions towards me--

1. If we got married quickly.

2. If I visited him often.

Thanks so much!! That helps alot! We are in queue waiting for an appointment now. I can't believe it's finally about to be here. However, due to work I am unable to go with him. I have heard of a lot of people still getting approved though.

How long after you got your letter about being queue did you get the interview date?

We got Case Complete monday, July 16th, got the email the following Monday, July 23rd and that Thursday, July 26th we got out interview.

Just a heads up, in DR specifically they do encourage both of you to attend the interview. I know of a case where the husband went to the interview by himself and they asked him why his wife wasn't able to attend, he said it was because of work and they asked him if they would be able to call her. When they called her she did not pick up and they told him that they will re schedule the interview for a date when his wife IS able to attend.
