I know this was probably discussed in another thread but I can't find it. So,

1- I know the debate is online or paper what's the benefits of each?

2- What documents should I send with the application?

I see some people say just send the form with the payment; I'm doing the credit card form while some people resend evidence that they've already sent with their I-751.

3- What's the best practice?

Thanks in advance for all the information.

1. Online is better.

2. Check the USCIS website. I mean, it's kind of lazy to ask.

Thanks for your response. Not really lazy. From reading other people's post, they give different advice. Just trying to get a general idea of what's over kill and whats the sweet spot.

Take a look at the N-400 guide and sample form. I did mine in the old way (paper). Just because I did not know then that I could do it online.  It took me 15 months to become US citizen.

Thanks, I was thinking about applying with paper, just because of some of the questions. I have paramilitary training and weapons training so I needed to explain that on a separate sheet.

I don't know how the process online is so I don't know if you can add information like you would do on paper but hope others can confirm this. If not, you can always file on paper. I did send some evidence from the past and new evidence collected after ROC process. Fortunately they never requested me an RFE because I think I gave them enough to chew on and my case fell between the 3 and 5 year marriage based N-400 so maybe they did not need much evidence from marriage.

By the time of my interview I was already in the 5 year mark so he did not ask me many questions about my marriage or asked me to show him more new evidence.  It was more like a fluent conversation to check some things.

My understanding is that you can scan and attach evidence with an online application.  As to the advantages of online vs paper, I am not sure anyone can tell for certain.  Online appears to be faster, but my wife filed her application through the mail and was naturalized in a little over five month, so YMMV.

Good Luck!

I see some people say just send the form with the payment; I'm doing the credit card form while some people resend evidence that they've already sent with their I-751.

3- What's the best practice?

Thanks in advance for all the information.

1- I've heard of online being much faster. If I knew what I know now I would've filled online, the process would've probably taken half to 1/3 the time it actually took me.

I filled it through their official PDF, so my application might have actually just been scanned into their system through the bar code as opposed to it being typed.

2- This is widely dependent on your application. Try following the official USCIS instruction document: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/n-400instr.pdf

If you apply online from my understanding you're able to scan documents to be sent with your case. On page 11 they tell you documents to bring to the interview, in your case I think things will go faster if you scan those documents in ahead of time and submit it with your application. Then bring the actual copies to your interview when they are needed.

3- Be as thorough as you can. You're typically allowed to explain or clarify any item, do so.

Citizenship Journey:

(Month 1)-   N-400 sent: 12/20/17

(Month 2)-   Fingerprints: 01/11/18

(Month 8)-   Interview: 07/30/18

(Month 9)-   Oath Ceremony: 08/23/18

Officially a U.S. Citizen!
