Sorry for the silly question here, but Ive read a few posts relating to people applying for both at the same time..

 

Why would anyone file both at once??

Correct me if Im wrong but a 129F is for pre-wedding, to get the beneficiary over to the US.
An I130 is for a couple already married, and now filing that and waiting approval?

Why would anyone file both at once??

I-129F is for a K-1 or fiance visa

 

I-130 is is for a spouse of a USC

10/17/2018                After 136 days of wait in HELL, finally EAD in production

10/21/2018                Card was mailed to me, and yes it said so on a Sunday night, while Vj-ing

10/22/2018                Card was picked up by the USPS

10/24/2018                EAD in hand. F%^&& finally

12/28/2018                Interview has been scheduled. Waiting for notification with date by snail mail

Sounds like a K-3.........obsolete.....the I-129f is usually administratively closed and the I-130 continues.....

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Likely for a K-3 visa. The K-3 is obsolete and almost never issued anymore...it will become a CR-1/IR-1 visa process anyway.

I tried this route (I-130, then the I-129f in the hopes of a K3). I was lured in by other websites that offered extremely outdated information saying the K3 would bring my wife to the US quicker. It's just not true anymore. My I-129f was administratively closed and my I-130 approved a few months later.

 

In retrospect, I am very glad that the K3 route was closed. It's more expensive, you have to then adjust status, etc. Why do that when the CR1/IR1 takes just a bit longer, and gives the green card and right to work immediately.

 

So yeah.. File it if you really want (it's free), but it'll get closed so you'll be wasting postage. I suggest sending the I-130 (and relevant attachments) and leaving it at that.

Like others have said, that was the usual steps to file for the K3, which is no longer worth the effort.
