Hi guys,

I had my medical last Monday (9th) and now my interview is this Wednesday the 18th. Knightsbridge haven’t sent my paperwork off yet and I emailed them today and got this reply. I’m really worried this will delay getting my visa. Is it better to wait until the medical is definitely at the embassy or is it likely to still be there by Wednesday morning? I wish I knew if they emailed the packet or mailed it over? Will any delay only be a few days??

You can still do the interview. If they don't have the medical results still by then, they will just wait to approve and issue visa until after they get the records.  Not a big deal really.

Yes but how long does it take the embassy? If my medical arrives the day after the interview would it just be a couple of days to approve and issue the visa? It doesn’t seem like a big deal but I really want to go to get married in August and some people have said that if there’s no medical at interview it causes a long delay.

That does depend on the embassy specifically. If it got there day after, hypothetically, could be just a mere few days, or could be couple weeks. Depends how busy they are and if they get a chance to review the records. As for rescheduling though, that is up to you. If there is an interview date say, 2 weeks from now at end of July then you can definately move your interview. This is more why don't plan things a head of time because you never know what could happen.

Obviously if my visa doesn’t come through in time, I won’t get married in August but we are allowed to have a preferred date for our own personal reasons. I haven’t booked my flight or anything yet, it’s just my wish and I already know hypotheticals. I was asking the question in the London forum because i’m going through the London embassy and hoping that someone who had been in the same or similar situation in London might be able to give me some advice on timescale.

I just want to comment that Viola's writing skills are pitiful. And she is incorrect that a visa is "pre-issued".  If your medical arrives Wednesday, it may not reach the CO's desk until Friday. He may not review it until mid week next week. It does depend on how quickly he is able to get back to pending work. Then allow a week for approval and sending out. A best guess is don't hold your breath for anything sooner than August 1-3.  Longer if the place is particularly busy or your officer went on holiday.

Rescheduling at this point will not save you any time.

I assumed maybe English isnt her first language but this is exactly what I thought. At this point, I can only hope that it was actually sent today. So annoying that they don’t follow their own timelines...

Knightsbridge told me my medical wouldn't be there until the day after my interview, yet when I showed for the interview they had already received the medical so who knows what goes on there!

Here is our case.

Medical: 6/20

Interview: 6/27 (Haven't received the medical results yet)

Visa in hand: 7/11 (I think my fiancee could have picked it up on 7/10)

So around two weeks for us with the medical results not in during the interview.

Obviously this is just one case. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck! ;)

Update incase anyone looks at this for advice:

I had my interview this morning and was approved :) In my case, I was lucky and my medical arrived to the embassy yesterday afternoon so I’m just waiting for my visa and passport. Yay!

So lucky the embassy didn't dally around getting the paperwork up to your file. Whew!
