Hi All,

I am a US citizen. My partner is in the armed forces from a foreign country. We are a same sex couple, and would like to start the paperwork for the I-129F. However, we're afraid that the fact that my boyfriend is in a foreign military could cause our petition to be rejected.

Any advice please?...we don't know how to procede.

Thanks

Hi! My husband and I did K1 and he was a member of the Romanian Air Force. The only thing that you will need to pay attention to is on embassy forms where they ask you things about having special knowledge of bombs and missiles and stuff. You put an explanatory note about your service and that's it :)

Hope it helps!

Is he required to serve a certain period of time? Some embassies require a copy of the Military Service Record certificate.

He is not required to serve a certain period of time. Could you expand upon those record certificates?

He can leave the military, and the process takes approximately 1-2 months. However he does not want to leave until he's sure the visa has been approved.

Does the embassy do any kind of background check that involves calling people for references at his job?...Ideally we want to keep this process in secret.

I know some countries like Egypt require a certain number of years served unless you are exempt and you have to prove that to the embassy. So if his country is not like that I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck to you.

Whose armed forces is he in.
