Utah Group Issues Brochure With Tips for Illegal Immigrants in Case They Are Caught

Monday, May 07, 2007

SALT LAKE CITY — An advocacy group has written a brochure that gives tips and phone numbers for illegal immigrants who fear being caught and deported.

Among the advice: Carry a valid identification and not false documents. Keep names and phone numbers of family and friends.

Proyecto Latino de Utah, an advocacy group in Salt Lake City, plans to distribute 10,000 copies at stores, churches and community centers. It is written in Spanish but will be translated into English and Portuguese.

"By the time immigration has decided to deport them, it's almost next to impossible to stop deportation," said Tony Yapias, who leads the group. "We want to make sure the families are prepared."

He said the brochure, which has a picture of handcuffs on the cover, was made after recent arrests in Park City. A meat-packing plant near Logan was the scene of more than 100 arrests in December.

The brochure lists phone numbers for the Mexican Consulate in Salt Lake City, Utah Legal Services and Catholic Community Services.

"The more information they have, the better decisions they'll be able to make," Yapias said.

The brochure also is intended to help people who are in the United States with expired visas.

"They think, I'm not Mexican, so I don't have to worry about it," Yapias said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is aware of groups in various cities providing information like the Utah brochure.

"ICE will continue to do their job. Their job is to enforce immigration law," spokeswoman Lori Haley said. "If you're in the country illegally, you're subject to arrest."

other states have been doing that.. thing is, like in the raids, illegals are forced to sign documents and stuff like that when they don't even understand those documents (cuz they're in english), so to avoid forcing to sign papers, or other abuses, they get those brochurers... they aren't stopping deportation, they just want to avoid abuses.. like that famous one in GA that ICE were entering houses without search warrants..

again, they are not stopping or preventing deportation, just informing the illegal aliens to stop any abuses.. and no, u can't tell me ICE doesn't commit abuses towards them.. so, they aren't enablers or apologists

well yeah, is not that tehy have lawyers or consulate numbers to call, probly they don't even know where the consulate is..protecting their human rights is not enabling them, IMO... If they deport a family member, inform the rest of the family, and u know, make them realize he got deported, I don't see the big deal with that... unless of course u're one of the 'well illegals are here illegaly, I don't care if they get beaten, or make them sign papers withouth proper translation' person

it's not like they are unaware of their status, is it? they know they are here illegally and some americans don't care about that fact. you're not getting the big picture are you? your job isn't one that i'd term safe and secure - perhaps someday in the future, when you've been replaced by an illegal, your tune might change.

also, if they are so concerned about their rights, they can feel free to wander north, south, east or west over the border of the usa back to where they are from, where they can have all the rights their mother country offers.

in conclusion, if illegals are looking for sympathy for their situation, they can look below. i suggest they try to find it between chit and syphilis ;)

no sympathy from this end either … a simple form printed in multiple languages will handle the info stream to the illegal … one that is available for all to read via the internet.

Maybe it could say …

“I hereby acknowledge that I am an illegal alien presently in the USA, I fully understand that I have broken USA immigration laws, and will deported within the next 48 hours. I have received my one phone call to notify my family that I am being deported to (home country) __________. I have been informed verbally and in writing that I must wait 10 years before applying for a visa to enter the USA. Should I enter the USA illegally again, I understand there will be an immediate deportation to the correctional facility at gitmo" :o:huh:

I have a tip...let 'em stay...provided that the members of these bleeding heart churches and sanctuary houses personally sign I-864 Affidavit of Supports for each illegal alien guaranteeing these illegal aliens (and their offspring) will not become a burden on the taxpayer for 40 quarters.

Money talks and bullshit walks. We would soon discover how much bullshit they are made of when it comes out of their own pocket. Bullshit and talk are cheap when someone else is footing the bill other than themselves.

Does anyone have any doubts?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Add ... no sponsor and the illegal is immediately deported.
