Begs the question is somebody in that category would be posting on VJ.

The hard reality is that there is no likely path for the OP to come to the US without having significant investments or a company willing to ship him here. The US is just not the sort of country that has a ton of pathways. Remember OP, you have the biggest gift someone from the UK has, which is use of the VWP for visa-free visits to the US, so long as you don't abuse that system. Sunny beaches and fun times are often a big draw to those from the UK, but you may be able to find options closer to home in a European country for that.

Life in America is expensive, difficult at times, and lack many benefits that those from the UK take for granted.

Australia is even harder to get a work based visa than the US.. apart from the under 29 y/o 2 year working holiday visa which allows for any work at all,  but will never lead to migration... .. Australia has a points based system which is much more  stringent than the US labor certification and is based on industry, education and skills classification.. The spouse visa costs 7000$ upfront.. very limited family migration ... and is the type of system that is being suggested for the US into the future.

I know a LOT of people who have got visas to Australia (like almost half my high school class is there, literally, and a bunch of cousins) and I have to disagree and say that from a work perspective, it’s much easier than the US. There was a stage we (SA) had a massive migration of hairstylists going there as there was apparently a shortage?! I know it’s tightened up a lot since the crisis but still much easier than the US from the perspective that you don’t need a job offer first and basically anyone with a university degree and who still has some productive years of work life seems pretty much able to get enough points to get in.

none of which helps the OP, unless they are interested in Australia though. Pity no one is a nurse, that’s surprisingly easy for the US and just about nothing else seems to be.
