if you have a kid who loves to read you're lucky, school should be easy for her. my son couldn't read properly till just a few years ago and it's definitely held him back in so many areas. he's always hated it. the first book he wanted to read was 'it' because of the movie and man, that book is like a thousand pages so he's been reading it for a year now.

That's my son right there. When I got custody of them from their mom she did not work with him AT ALL. So we have had countless hours of him reading, crying, and him reading some more. He is just now reading at a ok level but my issue with him is he will read it but comprehension is another matter. So I am working with him now in regards to reading and actual comprehension of what he reads.

Yeah my oldest loves to read, my 4 year old does as well but she can't right now so she makes up a story off of the pictures in the book. My 1year old just copies whatever the 4 year old does.

I have always explained to my children that money comes and money goes, but something that can never be taken from you is knowledge.

Cursive writing left handed, now that is a challenge particularly for someone just learning!

It's so important to teach kids the joys of exploring. Whether it be exploring history, sports, fantasy books or art, it doesn't matter. As long as your kid is passionate about something, stimulate that and help them grow.

I hate to say this, but try comic books, my son would not read anything, discovered comic books and learned to love to read, YMMV but I was amazed

oh i did. i tried everything. he did get into the harry potter books, but only because i read them to him and he'd seen the movies.

oddly enough, now, even though he still hates reading..he loves writing. stephen king has become a hero for him of sorts. i think with some kids the pressure/failure loop is too much, and they have to mature a bit before they can get past their early struggles.

Stephen King has written a fabulous book on writing. I highly recommend it.

Foster that and hopefully he will be come the next Stephen King or maybe a small time writer like Greg Beck. That is one of the reasons I stopped reading a lot of SHTF books from less known writers is that they never had anyone to edit ####### for them before they published it. So it was just horrible to read.

And for that I would advice sites like www.scribophile.com. There you can upload (part) of your story and get feedback from the community. Several Scribophile writers have published works and the feedback you get is very good.

I swear Kindle has been my demise in regards to owning books. I absolutely love to read and I have probably given away more books than some people have ever had in their life. Now instead of trying to find space for a book in my house I can just leave it on my cloud until I want to read it again or for the first time.  But if I read a really good book then I will buy it, but most of the books I buy now are hard copies and very specific books like Robert Gates book or Leon Panetta's.

i'm a book hoarder. i have way too many. if i can't give them a good home, i feel like i'm letting them down letting them go. i have a kindle too, but i'm old school. i don't feel like i "own" digital copies of books or music. i need a physical cd or record or book. and books will always smell delicious and kindles/phones smell like plastic and death.

I am as well so don't worry(hey we agree on something:whistle:). When I was working in Afghanistan I would buy used books on Amazon all the time which was great. I would spend $1 on a book and maybe $2.99 for shipping, but what I got in return was a book and gratitude from the book seller. Because used book stores sell the books on amazon to people so it means a lot to them for someone in CA or anywhere in the USA to buy a book from them. It has happened on more than one occasion that I got a book an a note was inside the book saying "Thank for buying this book from XYZ book store in Anywhere USA", so it made me feel good.

Not to mention once I had to many books I just went down to the Welfare and Recreation center on base and drop them off for people to read. I still came home with 1 footlocker of books to keep.

Now that I'm moving to the states I have to say goodbye to most of my beloved books. I can't bring them all, it's too expensive  (up to 30 crates 😳)

My love has already bought me new bookshelves and a couple of fantasy books I hadn't read yet. I love him so much 😍

I went to a Private Catholic School until 3rd grade. They recommended that I can held back a grade because I had a speech impediment. Nothing wrong with my actual school work, but I just couldn't say certain words (I didn't roll my tongue properly). My mom moved me to public school and I got into speech therapy twice a week. Problem solved in around 6 months. I ended up skipping a grade in Middle School and graduated High School at 16.

Oh and I also loved cursive class. I have a very messy signature now (Required to get my medical license, I assume).
