I'm confused on if the affidavit of support form (i-134) is necessary or only required if asked for it. I also want to know if it is necessary is the maximum amount required before or after taxes are taken out of my checks each month. My fiance is an upcoming soccer player and I'm a bit worried about if the US will see me as fit to support him before he gets his green card for work.

It is usually required. Check the consulate requirements. The income is before taxes.

Government does not care about your fiancé’s soccer aspirations. There are pre-set tables on how much income you need to qualify that do not depend on the beneficiary profession or goals in life.

So do I need to file the affidavit of support with my I-129 application or later?

The affidavit of support is only brought to the interview with the beneficiary. The last step...:)
