And if there WERE a receipt number, that would imply that they had already processed the application and that the NOA would not be far behind... which essentially would negate the need for a stamp on the passport!

The stamp on your passport is supposed to be used to extend your legal status for ONE MORE YEAR after a year from the NOA1 expires. So there is no need to ask for a stamp now while waiting for NOA1, they wont process that request.

Thanks for the advice everyone. As recommended I spoke to an immigration lawyer who confirmed that I can still work. Only problem now is the HR department at work who have said they will make the final decision whether I can come back to work or not. I did try to explain to them that the lawyer wouldn't lie...

They can consult their own lawyer. You filed in time. You are a permanent resident, and you continue to be one unless USCIS revokes it. The Green Card is a proof of PR, not the actual PR in the system

They most certainly will speak with their own lawyers. I just need to have some patience I guess. I do appreciate the advice from every one here, without it I would definitely be panicking. Hopefully CSC will start moving soon.

My lawyer says might take more than 60 days.

Yes, mine said the same. I'm just trying to stay hopeful that it will be sooner.

OMFG. I'm so furious right now. My GC is expired and I had quit my old job. If this take more than a week from now to get CSC rolling, I will almost certainly lose my new job offer. 60 days is beyond acceptable. This is a simple clerical task that they can get done if they put their mind to it.

I'm so disappointed in myself for not filing with 90 days to spare. So ***** frustrated.

I really feel for you, this is so unfortunate.. I guess we can only make sure we file for the N-400 as soon as we can, and just be done with all this. Good luck and hopefully your new company would understand.

100% agree. In such situation, they should realize it is not our fault and if they are really that swamped, offer overtime pay to their employees so they can swiftly process our petitions. The check cashing part and notice take very little time.

Have you removed the line in your SSN?

I have not. :(

How exactly does it help? I guess it's not possible to do it now that my GC is expired. Am I right?

If you GC is still valid. Go to SSN office and make a change ASAP. Once you have the card without restricted language and a valid DL, that's enough for working.
