Renew ESTA because next of kin changed?

Seems a silly question, but I'll ask it anyhow - printing off all my bookings/confirmations ahead of my next trip and I realised that the next of kin on my ESTA approval is still my dad, who died last year.

Is this a big enough deal that I should renew my ESTA with my new NoK or not worry about it? All my travel details and insurances, etc, have the information for new emergency contacts so I'm looking at it like it's a waste of $15 to update that one detail.

It's only $15 so I would just renew it.  When it comes to US immigration, always make sure the information they hold on you is accurate.

Wrong.

No you do not need to apply for a new ESTA as none of your details such as name, gender, country of citizenship, or any of the VWP eligibility questions answers have changed.

I didn't say need.  Please read my post carefully.  I said I would renew.

I did read your post carefully. You said the information they hold needs to be accurate. Apart from what I mentioned in my post, if other information changes so its not accurate, like next of kin, it makes no difference to the validity of the ESTA.

So you are wrong.

Next of kin would not be an issue for me.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

CBP says the following, doesn’t seem necessary for next of kin

If you obtain a new passport or change your name, gender or country of citizenship, you will be required to apply for a new travel authorization. This is also required if one of your answers to any of the VWP eligibility questions changes.
