Got our letter for the oath ceremony!  It's May 3rd at 9:30am U.S. District Court in Detroit.  Was hoping for Grand Rapids as the IO mentioned that was a possibility but we'll make the nearly 3 hours drive again for this to be complete :)

Do you guys know how long the oath ceremony is?

Here's a 5-year old topic. The ceremony itself shouldn't last for more than an hour, or two max.   But I guess there is no way of knowing when is the actual start time as opposed to check-in time in the letter.  I tried looking up naturalization ceremonies in the court's schedule, but they don't seem to be there.

I had my interview this morning. It went well, got recommended for approval.

The only useful info I have for future reference is that per IO the vast majority of Detroit-area ceremonies are done at the SE MI district court, so there is no delay from requesting a judicial oath (for a name change).  The IO said that they do very few administrative oath ceremonies in-house, and only for very special circumstances.

My Cousin she filed online N400 in Feb and she already got her interview date for May. Her field office is Detroit. I think online applicants are moving way faster than paper filing.

Would you know her exact timeline progression?

Roc pending?

3 yr vs 5 yr?

Time gap between each case status updates? Thank you so much.

This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes Psalm 118:23:)

She applied under 3 year rule. She is a Canadian, the only reason she applied because her Green card was going to expire soon.

Does she have a 2 yr or 10 yr GC?  If a 2 yr, did she file the ROC?

We filed paper and my wife’s interview date was approximately 3 months from when she filed.

Finally got the notice of oath.  It's on May 10.

If anyone has a recent Detroit oath experience to share, it'd be awesome.  Gotta know how long to budget for.  Gonna be trying to schedule an appointment at the passport agency on the same day.

I had my oath ceremony today at the US District Court.  My letter said to show up at 1pm.  We were there around 12:45.  There was a big line up when we got there.  We got through security and then we had to wait in line to sign the naturalization certificate.  They gave us the flag and a packet with passport application, couple of booklets and other papers.  A lady was there with forms to register to vote.  The ceremony itself started around 1:45.  First a lady from USCIS talked about what not to do with our certificate and what to do once you become the citizen.  Then the judge came out, played the anthem and she talked about right and responsibilities we now have.  Then they called us one by one to come and get our certificates.  THere were 70 of us getting naturalized today.  We were finished around 2:30pm.

Couple of notes:  Parking is 20 dollars!  We parked in the garage next to the court.  The garage has 10 floors and we could not find a free parking spot until we reached the 8th floor.  I was worried we wouldn't be able to find one and that we'd be late.  So leave yourself extra time just in case.

No phones inside the courtroom but you can bring an ipad?! Weird!  Didn't know that, otherwise I would have brought it instead of our digital camera.  The flash was not on (because who uses a digital camera anymore?! Totally forgot how to use it!) so pictures didn't turn out.

If your ceremony is in the morning you can go to the passport office across the street and apply for passport right away so you don't have to mail your certificate with your application.  I don't know if you need to have pictures for it before or if you can get them there.  We were not able to go because they close before 2:30?

Anyway, it was a nice experience.  Especially that the judge played the anthem on her phone, performed by Whitney Houston!  My favorite rendition.  And hers!

Just a quick update on our case.  While I originally thought the I751 was approved during our interview, I was wrong, but it has been approved now after the Detroit office transferred it to the NBC in Missouri.  Hopefully now Katya's oath ceremony can be scheduled!
