Hi All,

My partner and I are beginning to brainstorm what pieces of evidence we're going to include in our packet for our Proof of Meeting and Proof of Relationship segments. We met through a mutual friend, and are often attending dinners and parties whenever we visit each other's city.
For example, my partner came to Toronto for my goddaughter's baby shower. In our packet, we will include the invitation, plane tickets, and photos. We want to also include a statement from my friend (my goddaughter's mother), stating that we attended the shower and our involvement in planning the shower.

Would it be beneficial to include written statements from 2-3 friends stating that we were together, and include specifics of time and place/reason for occasion?

Thanks!

You can... but just passport stamps, plane tickets, receipts from hotels there, ect are sufficient for proof of having met. Then of course can ad some photos. Don't really need "sworn" statements; but again you can add them if you wish.

The main proof that you need is something that verifies that you have seen each other in the last 2 years prior the filing of the K1. Start saving evidence for your K1 interview. Passport stamps, boarding passes, anything and everything that has both of your names on it where you have been together as well as call logs, text messages and social media stuff.

The way I like to think of it is to put yourself in the shoes of the CO.  It is his job to determine if the relationship is bona fide.  Look at your evidence and think about how a stranger would see it.  Letters from friends are nice but what does that really prove?  That you have friends?

Look at your evidence.  At this stage the most important thing you need to do is prove that you are legally free to marry, that you have met in person in the 2 years prior to filing and that the relationship is bona fide.  Pictures along with passport stamps is good.  Have a little variety but also remember that restaurant receipts and hotel receipts don't prove you were together on their own.  Hotel receipts with pictures taken there is better than just the receipts or just the pictures.  Just step back and look at the evidence objectively.
