Efiling n400 what to include.

Greetings,

My Wife will soon  e-file for her citizenship and in reviewing the paperwork we are unclear as to what should be uploaded to the system when e-filing. we have seen differences in 2 parts of the instructions as to 

what should be included in the filing. Can anyone who has efiled help us with what should be uploaded.

When you are filling out the online N-400 application form, you will notice that for certain responses, you will be prompted/instructed along the way what additional information you need to include.  When you get to the Evidence tab, you will see what documents you have to upload.  Even after you have submitted your application - if you need to add more documents, you may do so.

 

You will find that if you are filing based on 3 years residency (as the spouse of a US citizen), more documents will be required.  If you are filing based on 5 years of residency, you won't need to attach as much.

Had to laugh I glimpsed the heading and thought it said effing.   They will need tax returns for 3 years, although it says you can add them later or bring them to the interview. Joint bank statements, residents card, marriage certificate (if you are filing under 3 year rule).  Rent/mortgage agreement, utility bills to prove your still in a marriage, but they can be added later.  They wanted us to upload birth certificates of our sons, my two stepsons and my son in England, clueless as why they would want this, as two are American citizens from birth and my son is in England and has no intention of emigrating. Those could be uploaded later and will have to be as I don't have my sons birth certificate here. The two main things that needed uploaded immediately were are a copy of permanent residency and a marriage certificate. Others can be added even after you submit.

At the end of the online filing process, it will bring up a list of documents you are expected to upload.  This list is intelligent and brings up the documents, based on what details you fill up in the form.  It is not the same list for all applicants.

It depends on the total number of documents you need to upload.  But, the upload process itself is very simple and easy.  Just make sure, you meet the size requirement.

You also have to keep the application active for 30 days. So in case you do not have all the required documents yet, and you are not ready to submit, log into your account and review the questions. It will keep your account current or fresh until you are ready to submit. Otherwise, the application form will be deleted and you would have to start over.

Hello guys,

I'm filling out a form online. i'm on evidence stage right now and I'm trying to download Tax return for past 3 years. it allows me to add only 5 files to each evidence. but one tax form is 18 pages and i need to provide 3 years which is over 40 pages all together. So here is my question: do i need to find a way to download all pages or specific pages with my name and my husband's name showing that we filed tax together? Which pages are better to provide for them?

Weird - I was able to upload all my tax documents. And after I submitted, I was able to add more.

 

Anyhow - You could order an IRS Tax Transcript online (previous years are free, https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript), upload that, and your current taxes (just the 1040 - the first and second page would show you filed jointly).

Thanks for reply. Looks like I need to update page every time after I upload 5 attachments. Not sure if it’s my computer or they changed something in their system.
