This is America, anybody can sue anybody for anything.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Gotcha, two people denied at candian with a child to a us citizen on the same thread confused me.

I wouldn’t advise someone to go and sue a lawyer necessarily but I don’t see where your confusion is coming from. Lawyers are paid to give advice. If they give inaccurate advice, that could be malpractice and someone could sue if they wanted to. You asked who doesn’t do their own research.. well.. maybe someone who had hired a lawyer?

Oh my god, have you even read my other comments? What confusion are you talking about?
In all my comments I am referring to that no one in here knows what actually is behind the story - still they tell OP to sue the lawyer?! Even though they have no clue about if the lawyer has given correct info or not. All the OP wrote was that the lawyer advised them to wait 2 years as you then get the permanent GC straight away. How is that bad advise? We have no clue if the lawyer has given other options in the advice. So to advise someone to sue someone without even having the whole story is stupid.

Right.... So before you go to a country that you are not a citizen/resident of, you wouldn't research how long you would be allowed to stay there?

On VJ we do not need to know the full facts.

Sorry about that. From our experience the best thing the OP can do is start the legal process ASAP.

Yes I did. You were asking on what terms could she potentially sue. I explained on what terms she could potentially sue.

I said nothing about whether or not she should or shouldn’t and I said nothing about her lack of research. I simply pointed out that it’s not entirely unreasonable for someone to have relied solely on the advice of a lawyer. It’s not something I would do, but not unreasonable.
