This thread is to talk about food.  Food you love to eat, and even better, you love to make.  No matter what we may disagree upon when it comes to politics or religion or race immigration, food is the one thing we all need in our lives.  Why not share with the rest of us?

It’s Current, Events might come from it,  most of it will be Hot (freshly cooked), it’s a way for us to Socialize one with another, and hopefully will turn out to be all of our favorite Topic.

OK.  First we use a packet of spice for shashlick (шашлыка) that we get at the local Russian/Eastern European grocery store, mix it with some black currant vinegar, and marinade the steaks in the refrigerator for at least four hours.  Then I barbecue the steaks to a medium-rare to medium level on medium to high heat.

My wife also makes a great rice dish called plova which is rice (usually brown short grained), cooked with fried beef carrots and berberis berries (bayberry).  she also add some turmeric and simmers the entire mix with one entire garlic bulb.  Discard the garlic bulb before eating.

Well I'm being adventurous tomorrow night and making Swordfish with a ginger demi-glace.

I'll report back if I managed to set the kitchen ablaze

My wife makes a mean toad in the hole, and a really great steak and ale pie. If we are talking about our own cultural origins.

We also love cooking Middle Eastern and SE Asia food. Yotam Ottolenghi has a great cookbook. The mejadra (rice and lentils cooked in spices, topped with fried onions) is delicious, and there's an amazing meatball dish in there as well.

We have a recipe for Beef Rendang we got when we spent 2 months in Java that is wonderful. Come to think if, we haven't made it recently so I might add it to our shopping list for next week.

I've been making homemade sourdough bread for the past few months.. if there is anyone in the DFW area who would like some sourdough starter, let me know.

I would like to know how you managed that, cause when I tried the bread turned into this soury rock hard brick...

Even the dogs politely declined

I recently made yogurt for the first time.  SO much better than store bought Greek yogurt.  (No offense to any Greeks here)

Greeks I know don't like the store bought "Greek" yoghurt either. It's an insult to real Greek yogurt according to them.

I agree!!

Nice topic!

I just made Dutch Stroopwafels ( syrupwafles) for the first time. I made the caramel and the waffles, all by my self.

My favorite part about Amsterdam (We were there for New Years a little while back).

One of the street markets there has a man making Stroopwafels who I swear is Benedict Cumberbatch on his days off...He's the Stroopwafel-making doppelganger at least.
