Hi! My american fiance and I plan to apply for k-1 visa. We'll have his parent as his co-sponsor as he doesn't meet the required income. I have read a lot of experiences saying the PH USEM doesnt accept joint sponsorship. Is still the same situation recently?

I have also read recent experiences saying they got approved as they were not asked to show the I-134 during the interview. Thank you

Manila never stopped accepting co-sponsors.  I sure would like to know where this information is coming from because it is WRONG. What they have done, in most instances, have not asked for evidence of support for over two years now.  BUT they state in the Embassy Letter for you to prepare the documents and have them with you in the event that it MAYBE asked for.  Here are the details.

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form may be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you. You may also be asked to submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included to substantiate the I-134. Download Form I-134 at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.

USEM does accept co-sponsors with the K-1, but they are not required to accept a qualified co-sponsor as with the immigrant visa.   USEM looks for the co-sponsor to be a close relative, parents are a good choice.

Since 2014 USEM has been sporadic with requesting support evidence, it is still listed in the embassy instructions letter, so best to be prepared.

Thanks, Hank! Yes, either his mom or dad would be the co-sponsor.

This is off-topic, I'm not sure if I can ask this here. But I'm just wondering how couples attach their wedding preparations (invites, venue, etc.) for intention to marry evidence if they do not know yet when the visa would be given.

Thanks again. :)

No evidence.  Both the petitioner (your fiance) and the beneficiary (you) are required to send a SIGNED letter of intent to marry with the I-129F petition to USCIS.    No evidence needed .. relax on that.

My sister was my co-sponsor for the K1 visa since I had no income for how many years (fresh grad). Last week my fiance had her interview at USEM and the CO never asked us for the affidavit of support, but before we were called to the window I heard another CO asking to see the I-134. I'm guessing it really depends on the CO. Just be prepared even though a lot of people have not been asked for the evidence of support.

Oh, great. I'm hoping that would be the case for us too and get approved. Thanks for the info! Yeah, we'll just prepare affidavit just in case I get asked to present it.
