Infopass, worth the trip?

Afternoon,

I am a 2016 August filer, still "in queue awaiting interview scheduling" and been there for 8 months or so.  Done all the on-line questions/help, called the national center, service requests etc. and no one can tell me anything of use.  As far as I know, file is still at the NBC, which from what I understand is the office which will schedule the interview and THEN send the file to the FO.  No one can, or will, tell me why the file is still at the NBC after 13 months, or if even my background check is complete.

So my question to the masses is, that with the file still stuck at the NBC, am I wasting my time (5 hour drive) to have an infopass meeting?  Will that IO be able to tell me anything of value, or move my case along?  Or am I simply going to be told "in queue...."

Thanks,
Emil

Have you considered contacting your congress person or State representative at this point to assist you in getting the case moving along?

5 hours is a long drive! Honestly I dont think they are going to be able to help you but I can be wrong. What they can do (if you go) is tell you a more accurate status. If you are "all set" and just waiting an interview- they can tell you apx how long you are going to have to wait for a slot. Each office has its own schedule and certain number of interview slots. So they would know about how long it will take for a slot to open up. It can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 9 months for a slot to open depending on how busy they are.

I have heard of people going and inquiring about stuff like that and the Officer there looks in the computer and a slot is "magically" open and they put them in it. but thats rare. You cant count on that happening.

If you were still in background checks they would have told you that (phone/service request) So you are probably all set and just waiting for the interview slot. I mean thats what they said so far right?

Other ideas is the congressperson that was mentioned. Or you can call local attnys and ask how long the wait is for your local office for an interview.

Hi Emil J: First off let me start by saying that each one of us may and will have different experiences.  I attended an infopass appointment in May 2017. Unfortunately the officer who met with me was not able to provide me with any updates. However it was helpful when I reached out to my Senator and the ombudsman office. My advice would be to exhaust all avenues and keep records of all contacts during this process.

If that is one thing that I have not done, I would definitely do it. Anything I can do, any buttons I can push, worth it. If nothing else, it will show that you care about your application. You never know with these automated systems, maybe your file is stuck somewhere, maybe seeing that you are actually physically there where you applied from may help.

Relax, this is not a race.

Yes, I had a congressional inquiry, but they are getting the same lip service I am given, "in queue".....  But they will continue to inquire, so I hope that will be of some help.

That is my concern.  Based on my readings, those session appear to be more misses than hits.  So not to make a total waste of a trip to the city, we will enjoy some nice restaurants and visit friends and family :)

Thanks for all the feedback.

Why don't you talk to a tier 2 first?

I have talked to tier 2 three times.  One didn't speak English, one had no time for me, but one was very helpful and actually issued a service request on August 28th, that is still unanswered.  The SR went to NBC and the tier 2 Officer said he couldn't see any good reason why my file was still there.  My concern is that there is some system's glitch causing it not to pop up on someone's computer screen to forward it on.  And anytime a question is raised as of why it is not moving, computer says "in queue" so no further action is taken.

So are the officers one meets at the infopass meetings about the same level (authority) as the tier 2 officers at the call center?

Thanks,

Emil
