Greetings all!

It looks like everyone is moving forward with their approvals and finally connecting. My finance will be here, prayerfully, on Thursday.  Our wedding date is October 6th.  My question:  What's next?

Here's what I know:

1) Complete an I-765 for Employment Authorization and the $410 filing fee;

2) Complete an I-485 for Register Permanent Residence/Adjust Status.

I understand they can be filed together.  Am I missing anything?  The last thing I want to do now is mess up this far in the game!

One last thing:  when can my fiance apply for a Social Security number?  Is that BEFORE or AFTER he gets his driver's license?

Thanks in advance for your input...we truly appreciate it!

Your fiance can apply for SSN upon entry before marriage. If after marriage, he'll need to wait till he gets his EAD.

For concurrent filing with I-485, fees for I-765 and I-131 would be waived. So you'll only be paying $1140 + biometrics $85 for I-485 + I-765 + I-131.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Whoa......$1,140?!  For what?

Please break down each fee...the only one I see is the $410 for the I-765.  This citizenship stuff is expensive!!!  LOL

This is not "citizenship stuff", this is just for a regular greencard. There will be many more costs over the years.

AOS/i-485 = $1140

Biometrics = $85

AP/i-131 = $0

EAD/i-765 = $0

Total = $1225

$1140 is for I-485.

$85 is for biometrics and must be paid with the $1140 at the same time.

When you file I-765 plus I-131 together with I-485, fees for I-765 plus I-131 are waived.

also, he won't be able to get a drivers' license without a SSN. And depending on your state, he may not be able to get a drivers' license without a green card or at least EAD (i-765).

Although looking at the Texas requirements, it looks like he may be able to get a DL based on pending i-485 (so after marriage, after he gets his notification that the petition has been accepted) - https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/documents/verifyingLawfulPresence.pdf

Someone from Texas may know better

I never saw anything for $1,140.  But thank you.  We'll have to rethink our budget. Neither of us saw anything for $1140.  THANK YOU!!

Please read the guides.  You will file the I-485.  Highly recommend filing I-765 (EAD) and the I-131 (AP) along with the I-485 as there is no additional cost.

If you are shicked by the fees then you must not have researched ahead/the entire K1 process.  AOS is part of that.

He should spply for Social Security number soon after arrival.  He will need his  I-94.  Print from online from here:  https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/recent-search

We did, but again, we saw a $410 fee. I guess I missed the remaining fees.  But we're on it now, thanks to this post and the many helpful replies!

Your welcome.  Yea K1 route was more costly.

May sure he does not leave his home country without a certified birth certificate.  He will need it in the USA.

Take his passport, birth certificate, and I-94 to local SS office to apply for card.  Then he can work on a driver's license.

We just filed AOS for my husband in Illinois and when we asked the DMV above driver's license requirements they informed us that the EAD is required.

He did file for a SSN a few weeks after he arrived, so we already have that. Now we wait for the rest of the AOS process and for the EAD to arrive. We just sent in our petition last Friday so we will be waiting awhile.
