Hey, I'm kinda new around here, I need some help, I just was told that I needed a follow up appointment for my tourist visa renewal. I was expecting this given that I stayed around 150 days when I last visited the U.S., but it all was because I was applying for a college over there, I had to give some tests, validate some documents through World Education Services, mail my high school certificates, etc and wait for the college's decision (they accepted me). I returned home in order to apply for a F-1, but I didn't follow through because my I-20 was denied since my father had some debts and bad credit, so I started studying in my home country. I resided in an aunt's house in Florida, and didn't pay any rent or basically anything at all. I was planning on saying all of this in the interview, but an aunt recently told me to not to say so, because it apparently was a visa fraud, since I was doing stuff that my visa didn't allow me to. I have read online and didn't really find anything related to this, just that as long as I didn't enroll in college or anything like that I was fine. That's why I'm asking if it's a bad idea to tell them what was I doing, and why I took so long to come back (long processing times), or if my aunt is right.

I have zero idea about F-1 but ALWAYS be honest with the consular officer interviewing you at any US visa interview as well as CBP officer at the POE. Answer what you are asked, do not try to offer what they didn't ask.

Hopefully the more knowledgeable members can give you a more comprehensive advice concerning your specific situation and visa. All the best :)

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

It's not for a F-1 visa, it's for a B1/B2. I know I always have to say the truth but the whole visa fraud deal made me reconsider it all.

Doesn't matter what visa it is. You have to tell the truth.

Why would commit a mistake before only to turn around and make another mistake.

Lyng is one of the reasons why it so difficult for many to get visas because the officers always think the foreigner has something to hide. Don't be a stereotype.

Can not work out why you would stay 5 months in the US and no doubt the CO will be wondering the same.
