I didn't declare anything when I entered LAX when I moved to the US. I didn't have any food/plants/seeds etc with me but if I had I would've declared that though.

No.  He should be OK.  Make sure he isn't bringing any restricted items.  They care about food items and I had some batteries confiscated!!!

They have dogs that have great senses.  I would not chance any foods at all.  I saw one busted for a sealed bag of fish chips.  The dogs found the factory sealed bag.

Correct, if it is not allowed then don't try to sneak it in by wrapping it up and not declaring it. He must answer the questions honestly regardig ALL of his belongings (including checked bags).

Whatever he wants to bring as food items he should leave behind as I'm sure he'll be able to find it at a Filipino store near you.

What food items are allowed to be transported into the USA.

Most airlines will not allow items such as dangit (dried fish), fish sauce (patis) and Magic Sarap. (Magic Sarap is for some reason banned from import to the US.  (From a google search Like any food product that is not registered for sale in the US, MAGGI MAGIC SARAP may face restrictions from Customs authorities if the quantity suggests that...)  The airlines will ask if any of these items are in the suitcases and I would not suggest lying to them because he might get into trouble if they find the items when scanning his checked bags.  I do know some friends who brought some dried fish but they had it wrapped in multiple ziplock bags.  But they did have to lie to the airline ticket person...me personally I would not lie.  Good luck and God Bless you all.  David & Zoila

P.S.  I just searched Amazon and you can purchase Magic Sarap from them.  I am assuming if Amazon is selling this it is legal to purchase here IN THE USA.

The saint replicate is not going to be a problem, and it is not necessary to list it. If you follow the recommendations given to your question in this thread your father is going to be find. Take a deep breath and plan a gathering for his arrival. Safe travels for your father.

BTW, make sure he has all the information he needs to contact you or any other family member that can assist him if he is delayed in any way. Since it is his first trip I'm sure you are coaching him on traveling safe.  Be sure he dresses warm and has comfortable shoes on for the trip as the planes can be cold.
