It started as a joke on the night Donald Trump was elected US president. Now Heather and Robin Vargas are getting ready to move to Canada.

Video by the BBC's Paul Blake

Do they meet Canada's immigration rules?

So I just watched the video..

They haven't moved to Canada yet (despite the video showing what looked like a Canadian passport being delivered to them).. any idea why?

Because you can't just pack up and move to Canada. They have immigration laws. D'oh.

I was wondering the same thing.  Maybe they thought all they had to do was ask Trudeau for a passport and they would get one.

I was wondering the same thing.  Maybe they thought all they had to do was ask Trudeau for a passport and they would get one.

Would need to know more info but if they said they have a degree, and did the IELTS or whatever its called, and took some time to be in Canada as a visitor and get some connections, they could qualify as a FSW.

Otherwise, they're at the behest of a lottery. Can't go the economic route, nothing special about them and Canada dumping economic visas -- being a far smaller pool means super high likelihood they'd not quality for this and not waste their time+money trying. No polygamy here so they can't have a three way marriage with someone and come in as I did via family class (spouse).

Also, for them to get a passport, need to be a citizen (big duh for people here, but not for most that would be watching the video), and they don't just hand out citizenships+passports to anyone that wants to come to Canada, as the video tries to insinuate. Have to be a resident for 3 years (used to be 4 min. for last several years, pulling back to 3 will cause an insane backlog and I believe under C6 this comes into effect next month). When I applied for citizenship it was just before the 4 year rule took place, the backlog then was 1-2 years processing. Under 4 years it went to 3-6 months. Now they're going to create a 2 year backlog (1 for prior, 1 for suddenly eligible) which means the process for citizenship will spike insanely over the next few years. Even if they were to get their PR, they couldn't file for citizenship until summer 2020, and being that this process will take 2-3 years at that point, 2022-2023.. nearly in time for Trump to leave office.

So they can hang Canadian flags all over their US residence all they like and burn through diapers and tissues whining about the terrible Trump, they still have a process to follow.

Nova Scotia, the place with primarily seasonal jobs (meaning, people who work part time, get EI the other half of the time).. intelligent place to go.

But.. the province has been in the news recently as being anti-Trump. What a coinkidinkle. Must be all that research.

- "Okay Google, which Canada province hates Trump the most?"

- "Nova Scotia"

- "Okay Google, let's move to Nova Scotia."

- "Hold it, snowflake, you've got a process to follow, and rules to obey."

- "Ugh, so racist, I'm moving to Antarctica."
