On your email you should have a case number.  Go to the USCIS website, click check your case status and enter the case number.  Then click on the case number.   If it says received there you are good to go.  Albeit it is nice to have a hard copy of the NOA-1 in hand.

Thank you, Cruise77

I am Canadian and my fiance is American. We submitted our K1 Visa application on June 22, 2017. After 5 days, we received an email and a letter indicating that our application was forwarded to California Service Center. We haven't heard anything since... it's been 5 weeks. Today, my fiance called California Service Center and was told that we should expect to receive our NOA1 six months from today because they have a 6-month backlog. Isn't that unusually slow?  Based on the timeline here on VJ, I thought the wait time is 2-3 weeks, not 6 months. I'm confused.

P.S. USCIS cashed the check about 4 weeks ago.

I made further research and inquiries.  The form I am looking for looks like this (see picture below). I did not receive one in the mail nor email.

I asked "Emma" and the answer I received was:

You will have to wait for your receipt number to arrive in the mail, or be sent to you electronically if you filed G-1145 along with your application/petition. If it has been more than 30 days since you submitted your application/petition and you have not received your receipt notice, please check to make sure your payment was cashed by USCIS. (YES, IT'S BEEN MORE THAN 30 DAYS AND YES, THE CHECK HAS BEEN CASHED)

If your payment was cashed, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 or 1-800-767-1833 (TTY). (FIANCE CALLED THIS NUMBER AND HE WAS TOLD TO WAIT 6 MONTHS TO GET THIS FORM! EVERYONE IS TELLING ME HERE THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE USCIS WAS TALKING ABOUT NOA2 BUT MY FIANCE CALLED TWICE ASKING FOR NOA1 AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER - WAIT SIX MONTHS THEY SAID - SO IS USCIS GIVING INCORRECT INFORMATION? I AM SCARED TO THINK THAT THIS IS THE COUNTRY I AM MOVING TO haha!... :)  - I also called them to make sure but of course they wouldn't provide any information to me, they will only entertain inquiries made by the Petitioner or Legal Rep)

And I am afraid that mine is in limbo right now too. :(

Now I'm curious, so what DID you receive in the mail then? You said you received a letter? The only letter you normally receive is the one you posted a picture of, nothing else. I'm intrigued! :P

The number was from an email from Texas, it also said that they have fwd'd the application to California and not to use the case number until we have received a letter in the mail.  And that's my whole point, we have not received anything in the mail and we're trying to get a copy. We know they already have our application & the process is underway, it's just nice to have an actual paper copy that they've promised to send.

Use the link that was posted in the second or third reply in this thread to request a new copy. Don't call the misinformation line other than to make sure they have your address right.

I will post a copy of the letter when I receive a scanned copy from my fiancé. It certainly does not look like the NOA 1 picture that I've posted. It just pretty much said: we got it, we sent it to California, here's your number, don't do anything with it until you receive an official notice and if you have not received the notice, don't contact us until July 27.  :)

That is so odd, never heard of this before. Are they so backlogged right now they can't even get around to send people real NOA1s? This must be something they started doing very recently.

It sounds to me like NOA1. It said I-797 on the topic right. Mine said the same "We accepted your petition and routed it to..." something like that.

I just checked my NOA1 hardcopy (Form I-797C) for the i-129f petition and it doesn't mention anything about being routed anywhere. It only looks to be coming from CSC as that's the address at the bottom of the NOA1.

All it says is "The i-129f petition has been received by our office for the following beneficiaries and is in process:" and then it goes on to ask the petitioner to verify the info on it. It has a barcode at the bottom too and it says "APPLICANT COPY".

The only time we received anything ahere they told us our case was routed to CSC was in the email we received before the hardcopy.
