I read some of it. I do agree with McCain that an announcement of this magnitude should not be made on Twitter

Not it would make any difference as far as response from the left goes.

transgendered people are already serving, have served, are current veterans. i get that this makes trump fans very very ecstatic, it really doesn't matter if he announced it by pigeon carrier or twitter. imo, the reason trump announced this at this particular time was to try and deflect the attention from himself and all the sessions questions. in trump terms, he was attempting to direct a plot change.

I think if the individual has already transitioned and had all surgeries there is no reason why they should not be allowed sign up, If an individual has not transitioned why should the military pick up the medical bill, also how long would the person be unavailable for duty after each surgery? There are also issues and side effects using hormones, increased aggression is a possible side effect for a female who is going through the change.

I don't think there is anything he wouldn't post on twitter. If 3rd World War were to start during his term, I bet the world would learn it from Twitter too.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/cost-of-medical-care-for-transgender-service-members-would-be-minimal-studies-show/

Quote

A June 2016 study from the RAND Corporation estimated that there were between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender active-duty service members — out of 1.3 million service members in total — and noted that not all of them would seek treatment related to gender transitioning. The study also estimated that the cost associated with medical care for gender transition would only increase military health care expenditures by between $2.4 million and $8.4 million each year — an increase of between 0.04 and 0.13 percent.

A very reasonable post.

I've noticed that this issue is being compared with DADT.. and I will stress again this has nothing to do with DADT in several ways.

1. Transgenderism isn't like homosexuality. There's no scientific basis for trangenderism. There is such for homosexuality. None of the explanations for transgenderism being natural makes any sense whatsoever and is supported by science. It's entirely a social construct by bored people, in an age where people need to feel special by not accomplishing something. And then feel they must be catered to for this. Hence why the left call people like Bruce Jenner a hero. It's a joke.

2. People who are transgender aren't being kicked out of the military for being transgender. Gays were kicked out under DADT for being gay. Again, nothing in common. This is entirely about people wanting cosmetic and hormonal procedures done at the taxpayers/military expense, as if this is something we all have to foot for them. Just no.

Overall, another dumb thing thats getting all this attention because the left want their way.

All these overreactions are merely an expected response from people who are extremely upset Trump won in November, thus find any reason to embellish everything he does as if it's the next coming of the third reich.

So you have no problems with someone signing up for four years of service and then saying they are transgender and requesting to transition?

Treatment including counseling and surgeries will take somewhere between 1-3 years assuming all goes well, so much for four years of service. If someone wishes to transition they should do it on there own time and dime and then enlist.

Whatever issues they have they need them solved before they go to serve in the military.

It's for people who are mentally fit for service not people who are confused.

Why would someone who is transgendered be unfit for military service?

I don't see openly gay people pre-emptively demanding hormone therapy and other stuff. The issue with them was simply being kicked out of the military for being gay. A very different issue.

The issue isn't with the transgender person but the social justice demands of the military that serve as a distraction. It aligns with the same premise of why those with existing mental problems aren't allowed.

The people demanding this forget a few key things:

- The military isn't for everyone

- Its a privilege, not a right

The left turning this into a rights issue only shows this is a dumb attempt to turn the military into a social justice squad. Good way to annihilate the military.

Why are you comparing transgendered people with people with mental illness?

why would i have a problem with something that doesn't affect me in the slightest? not all transgendered individuals even want surgery. non issue.

or overweight, diabetic and so on and son.  Its jsut to big of a burden. The military is about breaking things and killing people

So we can put the US's overweight soldiers on diets but we can't let transgendered serve their country?
