No middle name in I-130, what to type.

I am US Citizen filling for my spouse for which I have to file new I-130, 12 pages application. 

 

1) What should I put into middle name. So I should put NO, N/A or should I left it blank. Normally, I leave it blank in all USCIS documents. However, official instruction document from USCIS website says that 3. Answer all questions fully and accurately. If a question does not apply to you (for example, if you have never been married and the question asks, “Provide the name of your current spouse”), type or print “N/A,” unless otherwise directed. If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless otherwise directed

Put N/A    Some clueless fella might think your middle name is None when you put 'None'.

You are filling out a petition form, not an application form.

 

Now that the semantics are out of the way, you can type dashes in the Middle Name field, like this:  -------------

If you are unable to type that, then write it in with a pen.

 

Don't write "None" as that is an actual name is some areas; don't write "N/A" either because it is applicable.

Again, the I-130 is not an application form, it's a petition form.  I suggested writing in ------ to prevent any misunderstandings.  I can't speak to what "many people" are doing because I have yet to see that personally.

I'd be inclined to specifically leave it blank just because I can easily imagine some clueless USCIS worker entering in whatever you put in that box without really reading it.

We used N/A for middle name and did not receive any RFE whatsoever. Also, if a person doesn't have a middle name, in a way, it is not applicable to that person. As for using dashes, never tried it so I wouldn't say it is wrong but it is certainly not in the USCIS instructions if we are gonna get literal. Just sayin'.

I used the dashes and I did so on suggestion from VJ member pushbrk; I had no issues.

Glad to hear. I might try that for my next form since USCIS is asking people to answer all questions fully

So , what is the conclusion what to put in I-130 petition for no middle name. It looks like everything is fine either N/A, either dashes or leave it blank. Anyone recent I-130 filer ... any thought ?

I am the petitioner, i do not have a middle name, i wrote None, but that was on the old I-130. No RFE, and we were approved.

I left it blank with old I-130 and it was approved. However,  now I am concerned with new I-130 petition and the instructions that came our with that.  So , any new filer of I-130 with no middle name so far.

If it was me I would put N/A since she doesn't have a middle name (and does not apply to her case)

Just leave it blank. The old I-130 form has middle name too and we left it blank, we didnt have problem with it
