Filing N400 online, anyone?

Says we need to submit tax papers for the last three years. I do have PDF files for the last 3 years so I'll just download that online

 

hoping i wont have any issues uploading it.

I had that the first time i went to fill out my N400 about 6 months ago, but didn't when I actually submitted it a couple days ago. Not sure why. But whatever, can easily just bring them to the interview.

They want to see your Tax Return Transcripts, which is only a couple of pages long---not your original tax filing forms---you can order them for free at irs.gov for hardcopies to bring to your interview---or get them instantly in PDF form and upload those ones.

 

Each year will only be about 3 or 4 pages.

How long will that take to request? Can I just upload the first 3 or 4 pages of the federal and state tax? Requesting the tax transcript might take 10 days per google hehe

The full return though is just a single file, so its not that big a deal.

You can download the PDF online version of it instantaneously on the website, as I mentioned, and just upload that one in your application.

The paper ones took me about a week to receive in the mail.

 

If you do just the first 3 or 4 pages, that's not a complete document is it?  

 

Or you can upload the files you have of your tax return filing----you said earlier you had PDFs already of them for the past years...just use those.

Again...that is NOT a complete document.  You can't upload half of something required.  It would be like uploading only the top portion of your marriage certificate instead of the entire thing.

 

You said you already had it in PDF form...I'm not understanding why you're not able to upload the entire thing.  Are you saying that instead of each tax year saved in 1 file, you saved each page of each year in separate files?

They need all pages because they require a complete document.

Why would you not just upload the full document? It's ONE FILE. If you do it page by page... well, I would really not be very happy if I was the one going through your application.

I dont have a problem uploading all the docs as it 2014, 2015 and 2016 is in it's own pdf file. I was just worred that it might be too big of a file. Is that what you guys did upload the whole pdf file per tax year?

I wasn't required to upload any tax documents, but yes that is what I would have done if I had been asked.

5 year filers aren't required to upload taxes.  

Just upload the 3 files.  See if it attaches properly first---you will get a message on the screen when it does.  If it doesn't, then you can convert the PDF into a ZIP file and upload those with your application to make each file "smaller".  There are free programs on the internet to help you with that.

 

Rename each file as "taxes2014" "taxes2015" "taxes2016" or something like that so you don't get confused over which ones you have already uploaded when you begin.

 

You need to at least try to upload them first before saying they are too big of a file....

If you upload "just a few pages" of each one, then prepare to look out for an RFE in the mail asking you to do the very thing they are requiring you to do right now.

Hmm. That would explain why last time it asked for them but this time it doesn't. I'm not at 5 years yet, but I'm less than a month away from that. Man... has it really been that long? Feels like I just got the GC last year.
