Donald Trump Jr defended his father Saturday after former FBI Director James Comey's testimony, saying that his father never told the ousted top cop to end investigations into former National Security adviser Michael Flynn, but merely told Comey he "hoped" that he would.

"I think it's clear that everything that went on in the Comey testimony was basically ridiculous," Trump told Fox's Jeanine Pirro on Saturday.

"You and I both know my father a long time. When he tells you to do something, guess what, there's no ambiguity in it. There's no, 'Hey I'm hoping'. You and I are friends, 'Hey hope this happens but you get to do your job'. That's what he told Comey."

If a boss at your job says "Hope you can make it in on Saturday to work", try not going in and seeing how that goes.

Or if a wife says "I hope you can make it to your daughter's ballet recital". Try not going, and see what response you get.

Trump saying he hopes meant "I want you to...". Now it wasn't an order by any means. He didn't order Comet to end it. But he definitely said he wanted Comey to end it. He then fired him a few weeks later.

Exactly and why clear the room to say it? Why not keep Sessions and Kushner in the room and say it to Comey then if what he was saying was oh so innocent. We know exactly what Trump meant when he said I hope.

Only one man is lying and based on history, integrity and character, Comey will be believed before Trump. Trump has a significant history of lying.

So as the meme above points out, how is it Comey can glean intent in this encounter, but no intent in the investigation into the DNC candidate?  He also admitted that when the former AG ordered him to do something he did it, so he clearly understands what is an order and what is a wish since he did not end the Flynn investigation which also didn't end when he was fired.  If Trump rally wanted the Flynn investigation stopped, he has the power to do it with a preemptive pardon much like past presidents have also done.

Whether or not Trump's chosen method to try to influence the Flynn investigation was a smart method is irrelevant. If he is guilty, it is for ATTEMPTED obstruction, not successful. He isn't innocent just because he picked a really stupid way to try to stop the investigation.

Trump pulled Comey aside and as his boss told him what he "hoped" would happen. He told Comey what he wanted. No way to argue around that.

Yes, he's worked under three different administrations, both Republican and Democrats. He's worked at the FBI for a long time and served his country and is well respected.

Trump however, has far far less integrity than Comey. If things start to go further downhill and quick Trump won't hesitate to throw other people under the bus because that is the type of person he is.

So what you are saying is that if a president shares his thoughts on an investigation that doesn't apply to himself directly (remember, Comey verified that fact) he is guilty of trying to obstruct justice.  Again, Trump could has easily ended the investigation much like George H.W. Bush did with Casper Weinberger, or what Gerald Ford did with Nixon.  Where they both obstructing justice?

Working under different people does not necessarily equate to integrity or credibility.  I have heard a lot of important (some may say self important) people on both sides debate his credibility, but now he is the darling of the Left.  In reality, he is a political insider adept at saving his own behind, and trying to do his best impression of J. Edgar Hoover.  Trump may be just a incredulous, but to make Comey out to be a saint is just wrong.

Is that why Comey was recommended by his own branch to be investigated? Sounds like tons of respect to me. :wow:

Both are partly lying and partly telling the truth.

There is no such thing as "attempted" obstruction. Either there's obstruction (obstruction itself is an overt attempt) and meets the criteria of it, or there isn't. We don't get to make up crimes just because we're still in November tantrum mode.
