Federal contractor Reality Leigh Winner arrested for sending classified NSA intelligence to news outlet

A 25-year-old federal contractor is facing charges she leaked a classified National Security Agency document to a news outlet in May.

The charges against Reality Leigh Winner came about an hour after the publication of a story based on an NSA document detailing Russian attempts to hack American voting systems in 2016.

President Trump has been pushing Justice to go after leakers inside the federal government, which he has identified as "the big story" when it comes to Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Winner's arrest could signal the federal government is going to aggressively investigate and prosecute individuals who send classified intelligence to news organizations.

Trump and other Republican allies in Washington have made pursuing leakers one of their top priorities, but Winner is the first to face charges for releasing classified intelligence.

and any News agency that reports the contents of a known Top secret document should be prosecuted . This may be a disastrous leak as it give insight into the NSA collection methods and knowledge base.

Looks like The Intercept got the scoop. https://theintercept.com/2017/06/05/top-secret-nsa-report-details-russian-hacking-effort-days-before-2016-election/ This leak is potentially dangerous though because it's details can provide the methods other hackers and foreign entities could utilize to do it again. The conclusion of the document is that the result of the attempts were unknown - in essence we don't know if it was successful or not. It may very well have been. That information would probably be in other classified documents. Putie-Pie tossed spaghetti at a wall and hoped it would stick. We don't know the results yet, but I think we're finding out.

Yeah but, if there was no hacking,  and the US intelligence community has no cred,  why worry?  Maybe the document was fabricated by the CIA. Maybe patriotic Russians did this.

Yeah she is screwed on her clearance and getting jail time. So her life is pretty much over right now and can't do anything even remotely having to do with the Federal government now. She should have known that they would track down where that report came from and track it back to you. Only stupid people think that they can't do that and they don't track on who views documents on Sipr. 

 

I have actually had a clearance and working on getting a new one now, so I can answer any questions if you have any.

So, this should put to rest many of the doubts about the existence of anonymous sources. We now know they do exist.
