Who would have guessed?, need to go and lay down.

No doubt.  Interesting that they targeted a concert where the vast majority of the audience would be teen and pre-teen girls.

It was the perfect soft target. The arena is connected to the train station, and it makes it harder for the police to set a security perimeter. It's disgusting.

Reminds me of Toronto.  union startion is connected to so many things.  If anyone wanted to attack I wouldn't be surprised if it was there.

It's surprising that it happened at all, although some are claiming that the presence of the police is what prevented the bomber from gaining access to the arena. Downtown Manchester has always been under heavy policing, because of the IRA, and the soft targets around the station.

I'm sure the Manchester Arena hosts other performers that would have had a more mature, but equally large, crowd. I do wonder if the decision to do it at an Ariana Grande Concert, where the average age is going to likely be below 18 (or close to it), was intentional.

Born in Manchester in 1994, the second youngest of four children his parents were Libyan refugees who came to the UK to escape the Gaddafi regime.

His parents were both born in Libya but appear to have emigrated to London before moving to the Fallowfield area of south Manchester where they have lived for at least ten years.

Now there is a surprise...

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

But none appear to have suspected that Abedi – a slightly withdrawn, devout young man, always respectful to his elders – would become a mass murderer.

“Salman? I’m astonished by this,” one member of Manchester’s Libyan community told the Guardian. “He was such a quiet boy, always very respectful towards me. His brother Ismael is outgoing, but Salman was very quiet. He is such an unlikely person to have done this.”

The brothers worshipped at Didsbury mosque, where their father, who is known as Abu Ismael within the community, is a well-known figure. “He used to do the five and call the adhan. He has an absolutely beautiful voice. And his boys learned the Qur’an by heart.

Sounds pretty foreign....

In what way? Islam is the second largest religion in the UK. Yes it is still relatively small (Something like 5 percent) but I don't think it's fair to say they are all "pretty foreign".

He was born and raised in the UK. He was not a foreigner. Though maybe in Wales anything that isn't white or a sheep is foreign...

In a very ignorant way. Foreigners bashing foreigners seem to be a recurring theme in this site. Can't imagine why.
