So I had an infopass today. My FIL has terminal cancer and the prognosis is not good. We will have to return to Europe to help family and be with him before he dies. We got letters from doctors and asked if the case could be expedited for a medical emergency. We will be there for a prolonged period.

Our congressman contacted them last week about it also.

So I spoke to a supervisor who said she would recommend its approval for expediting and will just forward to the chief for a final approval . Within 10 mins of me leaving the congressmans office calls and says on Friday they denied my request .

So so I don know why the supervisor said they would help us. Maybe she didn't see the denial. I don't know but it's been such a waste of energy. I'm just going to have to hope that FIL can hang on for another while because we aren't in a position to halt everything now. I'm not going through this again. This process is harder than I thought. I don't mind waiting my turn but I hate to feel trapped by the whole process. And I hate that it is impossible to get a straight answer when you ask

I am sorry for the sad news about your FIL .

why you can not travel and come back ? Are you in line for interview ?

i did not understand what the info pass is !

i hope things will work out for you

We can and will if necessary. However when someone has been declared terminally ill with weeks to live there is no guarantee with that and we ideally need to stay indefinitely to help them find managers for their family business and for my husband to accept all of this because he is really close to his father. We moved to where we live now only recently and have no family here so have no option of getting someone to watch our mail and it would be expensive to come back and stay for a month again waiting for an oath. We did know it was a long shot so I will just accept it. I just wish the supervisor didn't say it would be approved when it was already declined. It was a false hope. However, I have to remember we are lucky to be at this point and just hope for the best with our family.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I think travel during your N-400  is OK. But don't stay too long out of board. I hope you and all May filers finish the journey soon.

Maybe not, but if you call the USCIS that is the time frame they quote and use to thin out calls before they assist.  Someone on VJ recently summed it up by saying those are probably the "oldest" cases they are working on right now, as we know there are always some folks that get processed a lot quicker than others.

It's not even my FO - so I don't really care too much - I was just answering a question.

Yes this website is just a matter of sharings its own experiences and understanding the process of N-400 journey. Everyone has each own life stories to tell.  We dont know whats going on inside the USCIS office. They just give us sometimes surprises of good news and bad news.  They cant answer our inquiries right away but people here in visajourney are always there to give us ideas whats going on.  Thank you always @lovelyalex

There is no formula that explains why some cruise thru N400 while others suffer endless wait time. But there are time tables on previous posts that we can all extrapolate how long it will take each one of us to cross finish line. Still, I appreciate all those who try to make sense of the process by using logic. Unfortunately, USCIS process varies significantly from a case taken at a field office to another. Since USCIS is a service oriented institution, I assume they utilize quality control measures that affect random cases to promote efficiency. Maybe that is why few of us get their applications adjucated sooner than the majority of us.

Meanwhile, keep being positive and live happy and healthy- but my heart goes to those who are affected by the wait. This forum beats any support group on any given sundayB-)
