Certified Copy of Marriage OR Photocopy of Original Marriage Certificate

Hello everyone I am new to this site, my wife and I will be filing our form I-130 to apply for a CR1 US Visa within this next week or two. I noticed on the US gov website that it states it's acceptable to have a certified marriage certificate OR a photocopy of the original marriage certificate sent in with the I-130 packet. I wanted to make sure I am reading this correctly.

 

If it helps we were married in the US, I am a US citizen by birth and she was born in the UK. We have a photocopy of the original marriage certificate and we are able to bring the original itself to any necessary interview(s).

Certified copy, not a photocopy. You should be able to get additional certified copies printed by the courts for a small fee (for us they were $10 each).

03-19-2021: Officially an American Citizen 🇺🇸 Entire journey from initial K-1 Visa filing to Naturalization took 5 years, 8 days.

You need a photocopy of a certified marriage certificate. You should bring the "original" certified certificate to the interview. 

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

 

K1 process

12/30/16: Notice of interview scheduled (day 109)

2/1/17: AOS interview (day 142) - APPROVED

2/8/17: GC received (day 150)

All you need is a photocopy of the certificate  have. You will need one for USCIS then when you get to NVC one for them. You bring the original to the interview that's required. No need to spend money or time getting a certified copy when you have a original.
