We have to go to CDJ, we are going to drive, is it hard to take your vehicle into Mexico, also can we take a big box of clothes and stuff like that to give to my husband's mother once we get into Mexico or will Immigration go all thru it and delay the process of entering Mexico? Thanks for your help, oh the vehicle is registered to me, and I will be with him to go into Mexico, but coming back into the US I will not be with my husband, will he have a hard time entering the country with a vehicle that is not listed under his name?

Don't know how hard it is but I heard it's a good idea to buy supplemental car insurance if you go.

found this (lots of requirements)

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have Mexican Auto Insurance when driving into Mexico - the Mexican goverment (and police) do not recognize policies written by American Insurance companies, even if that policy has "Mexican" coverage.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Excellent advise. Your american policy will most likely not cover any accidents in Mexico. Make sure you take your passports too!

You really should get supplemental Mexican Insurance - you can get it at any border city - signs are everywhere.

Bringing things over - I may have this back wards, but I believe if it's not New items - you shouldn't have to pay a tariff (new in box type stuff you might) - then again, if they want to, they might charge anyway - but from what I've seen - it's not a huge issue.

Will it slow you down entering? Probably not - but they always have the option of checking. It's usually the coming back that things get looked at more carefully ;) .

I can't swear to the registered vehicle question so will refrain - I'd think it's not an issue, but have not heard one way or the other. =)

Is it easy? Yes.

Is it advisable? Absolutely not. I would recommend taking a flight instead.

agreed

I used to go with my ex all the time but she is a Mexican and that really helps. She used to get things cheaper than what the 'gringos' paid

If you're in an accident, even a minor one that's not your fault, you go to jail if you can't show proof of Mexican insurance. So definitely have that Mexican insurance!

Personally, I'd probably drive to El Paso, leave the car on the US side, walk across, and use taxis to get around CDJ. The lines to cross the border by car are often pretty long, while walking is pretty fast.

Excellent point. I've never crossed at El Paso but I have at Laredo and it's much faster (and safer all around) to walk.

I don't know if this will help or not, but when I went to Canada on the way back they asked me who the car belonged to and I said "me" then I said "Well it's registered under my Mom's name" and the boarder person said "So, your Mom" and that was that. Doesn't have my name anywhere on the registration. So i'm sure if he was to say it was registered under his wife's name it'd be ok. Don't know if it would be the same for Mexico or not as i've never driven to Mexico!

I've driven into Mexico perhaps 1,000 times and never had a problem. You should get Mexican Insurance at the border before crossing. I don't know what CDJ is, but I was once stationed at Ft. Bliss and used to go to Juarez every weekend - it was a much more tourist friendly town than Tijuana. Mexicali is OK and Tecate also, and once past (detour) Tijuana it is very safe and tourist friendly. They have a Tourist Bureau in Mexico that looks out for tourists - you should contact them.

We have to go to CDJ, we are going to drive, is it hard to take your vehicle into Mexico, also can we take a big box of clothes and stuff like that to give to my husband's mother once we get into Mexico or will Immigration go all thru it and delay the process of entering Mexico?
