Ummm...so he went from he likes low interest rates to he thinks they should be raised and back to he likes low interest rates. Here's the funniest part about it:

 

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump said Wednesday the U.S. dollar “is getting too strong” and he would prefer the Federal Reserve keep interest rates low.

 

Mr. Trump, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, also said his administration won’t label China a currency manipulator in a report due this week.

 

He left open the possibility of renominating Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen once her tenure is up next year, a shift from his position during the campaign that he would “most likely” not appoint her to another term.

 

“I do like a low-interest rate policy, I must be honest with you,” Mr. Trump said at the White House, when asked about Ms. Yellen.

 

“I think our dollar is getting too strong, and partially that’s my fault because people have confidence in me. But that’s hurting—that will hurt ultimately,” he added. “Look, there’s some very good things about a strong dollar, but usually speaking the best thing about it is that it sounds good.”

- Praising Yellen. No, just no. 

 

- Says China isn't manipulating currency when its been clear for decades they very well have been. 

 

- Strong dollar. Need to keep interest rates artificially low. Nope. Not buying it. Dollar and economy aren't that strong if it needs Fed stimulus. I suspect next he'll say another round of QE means things are wonderful.

Not for nothing Yellen made it into my signature. I can't stand those *TOS violation*. If they do another round of QE they really need some serious mental help.

Dollar's set to correct some of the advance of the last few years anyway. It won't be Trump doing it.

You understand markets. I'm sure you've gotten the same signals over the last couple weeks from the VIX and other indicators as I have. Do you really think a 0.7% decline is because his comments on the dollar? I call BS on that. The bomb may have helped with an extra nudge, but may have ended up down the same anyway. If not today then tomorrow.

I think the Dollar's downside will be limited to the 85-90 range if that, before we see it closer to 120.

Yes. The vix as well as the /vx futures. When the near term vix futures is higher than the longer term fix futures there is downside risk. Also when the volatility of the vix or the $ VVIX is over 100 that clearly signals downside risk. These are symbols on Thinorswim platform. The market was pricing in Geopolitical risk which did occur.
