Family based Immigration - Reentry to US

My relatives received family based immigration few months ago. They came to USA & stayed few months during which they got their physical green cards. Then they left & went back to Pakistan (origin country) to attend some weddings & also to wrap up their business so they can come back to USA. According to the current law, would they be allowed to re-enter USA after an absence of 1 year or is the law now that they have to re-enter within 6 months?  They are not worried about the continuity rule for citizenship, Just they are worried whether they can come back within 1 year or whether they have to come back within 6 months? Please advise your answers. Thanks.

after 6 months they can be questioned but they would allow them to enter

 

the can loose their GC if they are out of the country for over a year. the longer they stay, the longer they might have problems for being too close to loosing their GC

 

if they want to stay for a longer period of time, they can come an file for a reentry permit, which will allow them to be out of a country from 1 year to 2 years

While you can technically be out of the US on a green card for up to 1 year, any cumulative time over 6 months in a year may raise suspicion of them having abandoned their permanent residence. The safest action would be to obtain a re-entry permit, which creates a presumption that they are not intending to abandon their US residence. It doesn't guarantee anything, but barring other evidence suggesting an abandonment of the US residence, it should be fine. A re-entry permit is valid for up to 2 years.

I doubt they would have any problems coming back within 6 months. There is an assumption that many people have loose ends to tie up.

Don't see issues but expect questioning. I know an LPR couple who returned after 179 days out and thoroughly questioned, but let in. This was 2-3 yrs ago BT (before trump).
