Interesting debate. Does a company get to set a dress code for their employees and their guests traveling for free and representing the company?

United Airlines defended a gate agent’s decision Sunday to bar two teenage girls from a flight for wearing leggings, saying that the young passengers were traveling on a company travel pass and were in violation of the airline’s dress code.

To be clear, United says, if you’re paying for your flight, “your leggings are welcome.”

The incident reported Sunday by a traveler at Denver International Airport, set off scores of angry and mocking tweets. But it also ignited fury among airline travel pass users, who say the girls taking advantage of the employee benefit should have known better.

i had heard of this exact thing happening in the news a few yrs ago so as soon as i saw this on my feed i knew it would pertain to the travel pass. as far as i'm concerned, companies are well within their rights to restrict their employees from wearing leggings in particular as a part of their dress code and if you are traveling for free on behalf of a united employee, you have to follow those rules, too. idk i know it sucks to have to sit thru a flight uncomfy but thems the rules

Yeah, while I find most dress codes to be kind of ludicrous to start with, this one was known so they should have followed it.

To further my statement: I see this no different than businesses demanding that their workers travel in business wear.  My parents are Salvation Army officers.  Part of Mom's uniform back in the 90s was the hat with pantyhose and skirt.  The hat is gone but the latter is still mandatory.  If 'the Army' was paying for the flight, full uniform was mandatory.

Their money, their rules -- and it's their image at stake.. given how business has changed to where now it's seen as responsible business ethics to jump into the fray of political causes (and alienate a good chunk of customers/potential customers) this is really no shock to me, and really of all things this isn't a big deal. If they had been implementing this ####### on fare paying people then I'd have an issue.

Next time I fly United I am going to try no pants at all, after all I am paying.

Do you mean a skirt or kilt?

How dare they discriminate against two mini-CABAS for wearing regulation CABA uniform? If they ban Uggs, all CABAs must boycott United.

I think that I lost my membership...I no longer own uggs or eat cheetos

it's ok, you can come sit with me. no uggs, meh cheetos. well noted in the other thread you've got your mind in the right space so, if  you sit spread eagle on a united flight in tights and a miniskirt and i think an exception might be made.
