What is your singular biggest achievement since moving to America? I have been here well over 4 years and I still pinch myself to make sure it is real :)

Achievement in what sense?  A good job, becoming acclimated, developing a circle of friends?  Did you have a focus in mind with your question?

Edited by TBoneTX

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Anything that gives you a great sense of achievement. Mine sounds a little daft, but when I lived in England I had been driving for about 2 years when a 20 ton truck rammed into me and crushed my car.... I walked away without a scratch. But I never drove again. I was terrified. My biggest achievement since moving to America was getting behind the wheel again, in a different country, on the opposite side of the road, and passing my driving test :-)

Hard to say: for my husband he'd been coming and going for so long he knew how things worked in America years ago. Every small achievement (like obtaining a license) was no biggie to him, since he was already experienced driving here. He says his best achievement was marrying me, but besides that I'd say landing a really good job after all the time waiting. I'm always so proud of him, so any accomplishment is wonderful to me. :)

Congrats on that!! I just moved here and I've always got some sort of phobia of driving - I'm trying hard to get my drivers license (and actually drive on my own).

I asked Mrs. T-B., finally.

I thought that she was going to answer, "Not having to work."

Or, "Being able to call my husband in a panic when my car is about to run out of gas."

She acknowledged those truths, but said, "Being able to go to school here."

I never would have guessed that.

Even when Im having incredibly hard days (especially at work blah) I try to just close my eyes, breath and remember Im in America LOL. I actually just asked my husband what he felt my biggest achievements were since I moved to America. His responses were rather typical:

1. Marrying him

2. Finding a good nail bar to get my nails done (???? WHAT!!!???)

k1-2016 and @QueenComley: I empathize with the driving phobia! I've lived in the UK and the east coast of the USA for most of my life, so I had access to public transportation. + some horrific accidents suffered by friends and family and = driving phobia. After moving to TX last August, I realized that I'd *have* to learn how to drive. I got my learner's permit in January and finished driving lessons last month. I can drive (somewhat poorly) in residential streets and can park reasonably smoothly. So I'm proud of the progress, even though I have a long way to go.

Married to US Citizen. I'm the beneficiary.

Adjustment of Status (AOS) from F-1

  • Priority date: 2016-09
  • Initial interview for I-485: 2017-06. Approved on the same day.

Removal of Conditions (ROC)

  • Eligible starting: 2019-03

You will do it! I refuse to drive on interstates so always take the longest route everywhere LOL. I love driving but only on roads I know and am very familiar with
