AOS and Social Security

My fiance landed on 3-10-17 and we got married on 3-17-17. We have started filling out the AOS, EAD and travel document paperwork and want to submit it later this week. We were going to go apply for his social security number this Friday or next Friday (3-31-17). There was no name change for him and we have a certified copy the marriage license. We are located in NH. I have read other people in other states had a hard time getting a social security number for their spouse after marriage. Any suggestions of what to do if we run into this problem?

If there's no name change and more than 14 days left until his i94 expires, getting an SSN should be straight-forward. Bring passport with K1 and i94.

My SS office wanted to see my original marriage certificate(name change), a copy of my I-94, my original birth certificate and my passport with my visa. And don't forget the SSN application document. You can either print out the document and fill it out or you can do that after you arrived at the SS office. They have the document available.

Easy process. Recieved my SSN in the mail 8 days later

I applied for my SSN about a week after we got married and I didn't have any issues at all. Had the card in the mail just a few days after.

I've been researching this topic a lot, planning on getting my fiance's SS# after she arrives via K1 Visa.

After much reading, I found that members who followed the VJ guide on how to get a SS# experienced little problems:

One thing I've considered doing, is visiting my local social security admin office, printing out the VJ guide and RM 10211.530 - and verify with a supervisor that indeed there will be no issues applying for a SS# under a K1 Visa.  I feel it would be nice to get that confirmation from a supervisor prior to formally applying in the event an inept staff member tries to give me wrong information.
