NAACP requires photo ID to attend anti voter ID protest march

You would think that, at some point, we'd run out of "you can't make this stuff up" moments.

In 2011 Elon University conducted a poll which revealed that 75% of North Carolina residents supported a wide swath of new voter ID regulations that were, at the time, making their way through the legislature. With such broad support, the measures were a no-brainer.  They eventually passed and were signed into law last August.

Obviously these laws are extremely racist. Requiring minority voters to show ID to cast a ballot is, clearly, a way for old white men to oppress them. So, as usual, the NAACP has been foaming at the mouth as it continues its completely genuine, not-at-all-phony, struggle for "equality."

Each year the civil rights watchdogs hold a so-called "Moral March on Raleigh." The annual event is designed to protest any laws that Republicans may have passed during the preceding 12 months. This year’s march took place this weekend, and it focused extensively on the Voter ID regs.  

So, what did you need if you wanted to attend?

  No because it's equally common among the right too. There's a guy on this site who posts twitter comments as news, then calls out the news media as fake,and then won't even back it up or admit he's wrong when he's called out on it. I think you know him.

  They appear to require ID so no I don't. However a discerning observer would realize they are not protesting about requiring ID to vote, rather the regulations and costs involved behind it which make it disproportionately difficult for some. When the 4th circuit court ruling against NC voter ID regulations referenced 'poll taxes' when reversing the ruling, and that it targeted African Americans with surgical precision, you should realize what they are saying.

Well how about the cost of the ID to protest ? Why is that not an issue.  So you are saying a lot of blacks arent capable of obtaining an ID. Thats kind of racist isnt it ?

  I find it pointless to discuss racism with you, you know that.

 

  I don't think they passed a law requiring that protesters have an ID did they? It's a list of do's and don'ts. There is probably a good reason you would want to have an ID at a protest. They can't actually stop anyone from protesting without an ID.

 

    I'm not actually sure how any of this compares to people being deprived of their right to vote. It's not on the same level.  I think, once again, you're getting worked up about nothing really, but ces't la vie.

NB, are you sure you aren't starting to be like the drunken guy hugging the middle of the lane the other day and causing accidents..? You know we've been over this so many times before. There's quite a lot of people that for various ridiculous state laws and regulations reasons will find it virtually impossible to obtain an ID no matter what their race is. If you want everyone to have an ID, then we need to first fix the bureaucratic regulations in state law and ensure that those who cannot obtain it can obtain it or you start creating federal IDs. But again we discussed that too, many times; and how republicans and many of those in the evangelical community of lobbyists seemed to freak out about that concept.

  I don't oppose requiring voter ID's, I oppose making laws that discriminate. Voting is a right. Don't pass laws that are overly restrictive or obviously discriminatory in an attempt to solve an imaginary problem and there won't be an issue. There is a reason these voting laws are getting slapped down in court.

 

  So far, despite claims of millions of fraudulent votes, they have found what ONE? It's Republicans who would like to restrict thousands of voters based on a fear that exists almost entirely in their own imaginations.
