Hello,

 My sister has been a US Citizen for the past 25 years.

I have a Green Card but it expired! I also have been out of the country for 8 years.I live in Brazil.

Can my sister sponsor me to get a Green Card?

How long would that take?

Your sister can petition you, and it will take approximately 13 years for your priority date to become current.

 There is no speeding up waiting for an available visa number .  People who are currently getting their visa from most places have waited about 13 years.  That is only a rough guess about how long the wait may be for you.  ( expect longer ) 

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

she should file now because there is always a threat to take away this category, so no one knows what can happen to this category in the future

 

and as said, since it takes 13 years, file now and forget about it for a long time

 

since you had a GC your sister must put your alien number on the i130 form, the GC number and social security numbers are given for life, so you will have the same number as before. and if you have a social security number, your sister should fill that out too
