When you renew your passport in Sweden you always get the old passport back, they just make holes in it so you can't use it. It's the same thing when you renew it here in the US even. So he must have his old passport somewhere?

When I did it they asked if I wanted it or not. So either he has it somewhere in his home or he gave it to the police.

Well, that explains some of it I suppose... Maybe that page stuck together when he was looking through it? In any case, the passport number of the passport being used has to match also the number with which he applied for the visa. In the case that a new passport is issued this always needs to have the visa included in it. This was a very unfortunate way to learn that lesson... Yes, hopefully they can be quick about it. The 2 weeks is the regular visa issuance time (also the same after approved interview) and it does sometimes go faster. I guess you will just have to wait a little bit longer to be together, but in the long-run this will be a short time - just a shame about the ticket!!

I'm pretty sure it wasn't there. But who knows for sure. The guy he spoke to at the embassy also emailed him after the visit to the embassy confirming everything he had said, so at least we have direction from here. He'll be going to the police tomorrow to request the letter stating destruction, I doubt they still have it there.

Also, Scandi, as far as I know they kept his old passport and sent him the new one by itself.

The wait sucks but we are used to it! I think we can manage another 2 weeks to be together a lifetime!

Yes they ask you if you want it and if you say yes, they put the holes, and if you don't it's sent for destruction.

Had no idea you even had a choice, I have never been asked. Not here in the US either. They automatically punch holes in it and give it back. I even got my old Swedish driver's license back when I renewed it here in the US, that never happened in Sweden. No holes in it either.

Hej everyone,

American here, Swedish spouse. He lived in Norway for a bit, hence needs Norwegian police certificate for NVC...we sent a request to Norwegian police about a month ago and no response at all...any tips on getting in touch with them/getting the police certificate? I called the Norwegian consulate but they couldn't help. He doesn't have a Norwegian BankID so getting the certificate online is not a viable option.....

Here's instructions on how to apply through mail:

https://www.politi.no/tjenester/politiattest/hvor_skal_soknad_om_politiattest_sendes/

You don't need to fill out the form "Bekreftelse på formål" (step 1) for visa purposes.

Thank you RandB! We did fill out the form and sent it in, but didn't hear back--could it be because we requested them to send the documents to America? Just worried about things getting lost in mail, or if they'd rather not send mail overseas to us. There was no fee, which surprised me....

I see. Getting a police certificate can take a while, depending on the amount of people applying at the time. It usually takes 1-2 weeks, but can take a month. Also, since you did not apply through their website it probably takes a little longer. Additionally, sending mail from Norway to the US takes about 1-2 weeks. You'll probably get it soon, but if you feel like it's taking too long then you should call them. There's a phone number available to their service center on the link I posted. The fact that there is no fee is normal for Norway. Government stuff like that is free. I hope it works out for you!

Things just got worse. My fiance got the paper, sent it to the immigration office like they requested. Now they said that he has to do an entirely new ds-160, interview, etc. Is there anything we can do?

Did they explain why they have to redo everything? How long ago was his last interview? Could be it's procedure when they cancel a visa. Could be the interview was too long ago. Sadly I think you just have to go with the flow and be thankful it's not worse. Sorry this happened to you guys :(

His interview was just in February. They didn't say.

Wow... I think unidentified is right... probably since according to them it was issued, they need to redo everything, make sure he is who he say he is, the same person in the new passport - not that they doubt it, it's probably just procedure they have to follow... I guess just fill out that thing as fast as possible and ask them if they can schedule an appointment for you faster cause of this??

We sent an email to the immigration unit explaining the entire issue from beginning to end and also explained our wedding plans that were already solidified. They responding confirming they received the email, but have yet to respond with any more information regarding it. Hopefully they are able to do this another way, if not we will have to just proceed with the entire process once again. I'll keep the forum updated on the outcomes.
