You do know in the south you can call someone, everything but a Human and its ok as long as you say Bless your heart

That's funny.  Sweden is #10 in the world for number of privately owned guns, the US is #1.  At 21 guns owned per 100 people in Sweden, and 101 guns per 100 people in the US, I'd say you were only 5 times as likely to get offended in the US as in Sweden.  Scared and stay inside a lot, eh?

Other than what DaKine just mentioned about that being a hell of a big difference statistically. You're also not allowed to walk around with those lol. They are mostly hunting rifles and target shooting guns locked away in safes. You have to have an actual purpose to have a gun license in Sweden and those two are the most common. To have a "hunting gun" you have to go take a sort of "diploma" that has weeks of both practical and theoretical training required. 

I trust a lot more that those ppl aren't crazies lol.

And I never said guns offend me.. I don't know where you got that. I said they scare me and rightly so with the statistics of gun related deaths in the US.

That's strange... I would think in a country where gun education is mandatory, and most guns are locked away and not allowed to be carried in the open, the number of firearm deaths would be much lower.  Consider that there are 5 times as many guns in the US, but 7 times as many deaths.  I would have expected that second number to be more like 20 or higher, from your description of gun handling in Sweden.  (Not at al trying to take away from the way your country deals with guns, sounds like they are on the right track overall).

 

But you can relax.  I can count on two hands the number of times I have seen a weapon on a person who wasn't a LEO or military out in public, and I have lived in the US most of my life.  I don't think anyone will be out a-gunnin' for ya.

Take away the drug infested violent inner cities, most of which have Draconian gun control laws , our rates would be lower than most

Oh, our rates aren't really that high in reality, but your point is very valid.  We agonize over 15,000 deaths per year in one area, but ignore the millions of deaths in other areas.  Ahhh, the freedome to make choices.

I don't actually think I'm gonna get shot if I put my foot out the door. I just have very high respect for guns, and I'm just very aware that they are around more here. I'm sure I'll feel more comfortable with that as time goes by.

I'm sure you'll be fine, and I hope you really find yourself happy here.  Too often, homesickness can cause the first months or years to be not so much fun for anyone.  I wish I could tell you that you'll "never get shot" in the US.  It happens.  But you're more than twice as likely to die in a car wreck.  Stay out of one of the "big 4" cities, and your chances of dying in an automobile will likely shoot to 10 times higher than a gun death. You're at least 3 times as likely to die by suicide than by a gun.  LOL, I could go on, but you get the idea.

 

Enjoy your time with your guy, and settle in and get comfy.  Welcome to the US.  Hopefully you will find it enjoyable.  If not, I am sure Sweden would be a great place for you to take your husband back to and see how he likes it there.  Never visited there myself, but I think it's beautiful.
