You guys.. i can't believe it. I just received an Email von NVC that my police certificate is missing.. well, a lawyer prepared our case. I can't believe we paid 3,6k on legal fee's and get a request for documents because the initial first checklist (attorneys get that when the file hits the NVC) was not followed correctly by my attorney. It makes me so mad. I have had my police certificate in my folder since August! Now this process begins from the very beginning. I told her this time to actually SCAN (my country is eligible for electronic processing-yet she did it via Mail..why? idk) the checklist and EMAIL it to NVC. I am so beyond exhausted with all this. I don't know what to do anymore

Goodness if I made an error like that in my job I'd have to refund AND compensate the customer! That's terrible. Is there any way you can fire the lawyer and carry on with this by yourself? By using this website and the guides you can get through it without a lawyer in most cases.

I think I'm going to be ill. My husband just called me and has lost his passport. He was traveling with his mother and carries is passport and debit card and important bits that he wants with him while on the road and stopped to get gas. Laid is wallet thing on top of his car and drove off.

How is this going to affect the process? He's making a mad search right now to see if he can find it, but it's doubtful he will. That means cancelling his current passport and getting a new one. If it comes to that, will we need to send a copy of the biographic page from the new passport to nvc or just take it to the interview when that time comes.

He feels terrible. We were already struggling with the wait. He feels awful that he's maybe added to it.

Any advice?

I believe he would need the new copy on the interview and need not pass it again at NVC. I submitted a biographic page of passport with my maiden name in USCIS and a married name on NVC stage and it was fine. Not sure though if he needs to have the same passport from NVC stage to Consulate stage. All they indicate in my interview letter is 6 mos validity I would assume if I happen to submit an passport copy at NVC which happens to be less than at the time of interview and had it change because of that it would be completely fine. I hope it does make sense. But I would suggest calling as well whether you need to or not.

I think i could fire her, but we already paid for all the legal fee's. She wanted it all in advance, It was a fixed fee. I don't think you can get a refund? She will get a review online from me after we are done with the process. It's been nothing but a waste of money really. All the paperwork i could've filed myself.

I scanned the police certificate myself now and sent it to the NVC via electronic processing. Did it exactly how it was described on the travel.gov website.

Does anybody know how long the NVC takes to review the checklist after you sent it via Email?

I'm slapping myself on the hand right now. Finally called in since we reached our 6 weeks, and they apparently haven't touched the DS-260 (which they still think is missing), because they reviewed my emailed AOS package when it came in a day before the DS-260, and it was missing our marriage certificate. Apparently, when I split up all the scans into separate files according to their instructions, that's the file I forgot.

Thanks for telling me, NVC... ugghhh, and here I pride myself on my attention to detail.. :(

I have a question for yall regarding scan date...

Should I receive some sort of contact from NVC telling me the scan date? Or is there a way to find that out electronically?

I never received any electronic notification at all. Had to call in and check!

Oh dear...I feel the pain. If it makes you feel any better, here's what I did. Was due to fly to visit my husband for the first time in many months. Took my passport to work with me the day before I flew so that I could do online check in 24 hours before flight departure and print my boarding pass at work and use the company's paper and electricity :)

Left my passport on the train on the way to work. Never saw it again. Had to call my husband and tell him I wasn't coming. I felt sick making the call and I thought he thought I was ending it (this is before we were engaged). I called the train company and they said even if it was found it would be destroyed to protect my identity and stop someone else using it. I even called the airline to see if I could fly with my driving licence (I know! But I was desperate!). In the end I couldn't go and couldn't rearrange the trip for several months.

Anyway.... it's not as bad as it sounds. I was at the London embassy just yesterday and one of the applicants had a passport that he received just the previous week because when he sent his stuff to the NVC he had enough time left on his passport but by the time the interview came round he has less than 8 months (which is what London requires). It was no problem - the man at the document screening desk just updated the system with the new passport number.

So get your husband to report it to the local police and get a lost passport reference number, send that to the passport office with a replacement passport form and get a new one in time for the interview. It'll be expensive but not half as expensive as the rest of this process.

I lost three months because of a shitty lawyer. Actually, more like five months because my process would have been completed in a much shorter timeframe had everything gone like it was supposed to. Anyway, I also work with lawyers, and they assured me that I should not feel bad simply because they have filled out a few forms; it's completely not alright. I asked for my full retainer (the money paid up front) back, and to have a complete copy of my case file (because it is your right to receive those documents). Both were returned to me. It's possible that you can not demand all of the money back, sure, but you have every right to point out the blatant mistake and ask for a portion of the money returned to you. AND ask for your case file to be returned to you!
