I came here in april with a K1 and married in may. My wife has a traveling job and we have been all over the country renting rooms from craigslist and airbnb... Next month is our interview and i was really sad because i was hoping to get the greencard without one. I remember the first interview i was so stressed out and anxious and was hoping to be done with this for a while. Now i need to get ready to once again prove our love is real...

The problem is that besides a joint bank account and a costco membership we dont have any joint assets. No credit cards, no loans, no car etc. We do have tons of pictures of us together that proves we physically were together but we cant show an official piece of paper. The room we rent right now is from craigslist we pay cash and only get a receipt from the home owner.

Im really worried about this situation. We also dont have a joint tax return yet since ive only been here for 7 months...

I always told as a k1 visa holder the interview was a walk in the park is this true? Or are k1 visa holders just as suspicious in the eyes of uscis than any other visa?

What can i expect? I want to be as prepared as possible. Thanks!!!

I suggest that you bring what you have, bank statements, joint taxes, joint taxes, and copies of the pictures. I think most IOs understand that K1 interviewees may not have a lot of joint assets. Our interview was pretty easy from an overall stress standpoint, the IO just verified the 485 information and asked us about our relationship story. We were in and out in 10 minutes.

Just keep in mind that you will want to start getting more joint assets for the ROC process in the next two years or so.

Good Luck!

Have you gotten your SS card yet? State ID card/Drivers license? Did you get a lease when you moved into the room? seems as though there would be some kind of agreement you would have signed for the room. If not, perhaps you can ask the home owner for something signed by both of you to show as a proof. You said you travel for your wifes job, is that a leased car or something that you cannot be added to the title? Do you have medical insurance yet? I have heard that you can submit affidavits from family/friends that can attest to your marriage and commitment. As a plus, you are not from a high fraud country, your wife is still able to prove financial support, I would gather what you have and I guess hope for the best. I was a little worried about our interview but it was about 20 minutes and was approved ( even though she said she still had to review some things) Best wishes.

We use her car to drive around, but we are kinda living a nomad lifestyle. I dont have my US licence yet. Im recovering from a car accident back home. We could ask the home owner for a affidavit and friends/family, thanks for the suggestion. I do have my SS but no health insurance or anything yet. Even my cellphone is not in my name. Its in her fathers name because i am on the family plan.

You can get the car title in both of your names as well as car insurance.

Power of attorneys, living wills and last wills are also good to have in life and good evidence.

You can take out a small insurance policy listing your spouse as beneficiary.
Christmas cards, letters from family and friends addressed to both of you.

Make sure you have plenty for ROC, they are quite firm with their RFE's during that phase and it's not as easy

like AOS with just a couple of proofs and they want to see financial mingling from inception of marriage so get

prepared for ROC now not later.

Our AOS was pending 16 months, then a 1 hr interview for each of us, separate interviews, still pending 2 months after

the interview. For some it's easy peasy for others not so much.

My husband lucked out, we still don't quite understand it but we sent in all his documents for ROC and got a 1 year extension because they were so backed up and ended up receiving his 10 year card in the mail a while later with no interview.

Everyone gets a year extension, unless you mean he got another year on top of the first one.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.
