To give us all a glimpse of hope, the July 31, 2017 processing time update from USCIS came out today and VSC were at the time processing August 15, 2016 filers.

So basically they are kind of 2 weeks ahead.

To all fellow November-16 Filers-

I thought while we are all waiting to hear from USCIS, I thought I would share an interesting article I found today :):):)

US Homeland Security Will Start Collecting Social Media Info on All Immigrants October 18th

Fellow Nov-16 Filers-

I thought other folks might be in my position and would share my experience with removing the restriction on my social security card. I, foolishly, didn't realize I needed to do that at all since I have had the same job for many years now. However, my HR department has been nagging me about my new green card since they go by the end date of the card. So I told my immigration lawyer about the issue and she said the same thing many other VJers have posted about here. By law, employer should accept your unrestricted social security card with I-9 form as eligibility for employment. And since I got my social security card first many years ago when I came here on a student visa, it was naturally restricted. So, I went to my local social security office yesterday, brought old social security card, passport, expired green card, I-751 extension letter. The lady was nice and asked for all the documents.  Initially, she was hesitant to approve me since the letter expires in 2 months. I told her what I have learned here - it extends green card by 1 year, not from the issue date of the letter. She said, I don't think so, I need to confirm with my manager. Then, she did NOT confirm with anyone, took my restricted card, handed me a confirmation notice and said I should expect to get my new social security card in the mail in 1 week.

When you get the green card, you need to go to the Social Security Bureau and get an unrestricted card.

Also, i just got off the phone with USCIS and they said that the extension is valid until the date of the extension notice and not the date on the card. If this is correct, you are out of status and need to make an appointment at the local office asap.

When do you think CSC will start working on Nov. 2016 cases?

Based on my estimations, it looks like not until May/June 2018 given that in October 2017 they were working on mid-July 2016 applications.

Thoughts?

My wife is still waiting on the I-751, but is not eligible to apply for citizenship. One of the required documents for the N-400 Application for Naturalization is "A photocopy of both sides of your Permanent Resident Card". My wife only has the temporary I-551 stamp, because like most people here, her 2-year green card and extension letter already expired, and she was required to surrender the expired card when she got the stamp.

So, I presume that she's allowed to just send in a photocopy of the page of the passport with the I-551 stamp in it? What have other people been doing?

Removal of Conditions:

2016-09-27: I-751 removal of conditions petition sent (with fee waiver request)

2016-09-30: I-751 petition delivered to California Service Center

2016-11-01: Informed in USCIS customer service call that they had no record of receiving our petition, but that it might still be languishing somewhere in fee waiver limbo

2016-11-01: Filed I-751 again, this time with payment check instead of fee waiver request (sent Priority Express)

2016-11-03: Date on I-797 Notice of Action (received 11/7)

2016-11-09: USCIS mailed out denial of our original fee waiver request, with denial letter dated 2016-11-02

2016-11-19: Biometrics appointment notice issued, for 2016-12-07 appointment

2016-11-26: Second biometrics appointment notice issue, for 2016-12-16 appointment (see this thread)

2016-12-07: Biometrics appointment. Allowed to complete biometrics despite mix-up on their end (again see this thread), but some people had to come back for second appointment date.

2018-05-01: Notice that our case was transferred to National Benefits Center in Lee's Summit, MO

2018-06-11: Approved after N-400 interview in Portland, OR (they seemed to be waiting for that before bothering with it)

Citizenship:

2017-12-11: N-400 Application for Naturalization submitted online while still waiting to hear back on I-751, received same day

2017-12-15: Biometrics notice

2018-01-04: Biometrics completed, on appointment date (Portland, OR)

2018-02-28: Interview scheduled for April 12 in Portland, OR

2018-03-01 (approximate): We sent in a letter requesting that the interview be rescheduled to after June 8, due to combination of work and family travel plans

2018-03-07: Notice that our April 12 interviewed had been "canceled" (pending rescheduling, but the letter didn't actually say that; officer at InfoPass later explained that interviews aren't scheduled until five or six weeks before the interview date, so they were waiting until closer to our requested rescheduling window)

2018-05-03: New interview scheduled for June 11.

2018-06-11: Citizenship interview - approved!

Yes, just photocopy the passport of your wife with the I-551 stamp, I will also include the copy of the I-797 letter the expired green card if you have the copy just to make sure they will accept your N-400 application.

better be safe than sorry. :)
